The Way Transforming Lives through Education and Faith

Meet Lomude Santos.
I first met Lomude in January 2023 during a visit to the Rhino Refugee Camp in Uganda. At that time, he was not in school. He shared with me his deep desire to study, but his family simply could not afford school fees. His parents wanted the best for him, but they had no means to support his education.

As The Way Foundation, our mission is to stand with young people like Lomude those who have the passion to learn but lack the opportunity. After listening to his story, I promised to look into his situation and see what could be done.

When the opportunity opened, we enrolled Lomude into our 2023 scholarship program. He joined Senior 4 and worked incredibly hard. Last year, he completed his Advanced level(High School), and just a few days ago he proudly shared his results with me: he scored 11 points a remarkable achievement for a student studying in a refugee settlement.

Today, Lomude dreams of pursuing Public administration and social Management at university. He is determined, focused, and passionate about education. I have seen his commitment firsthand. He is a young man with potential, ambition, and a heart to change the story of his family and his community.

As he hopes to begin university this August, I invite you to pray for Lomude and, if you feel led, to support his journey. Your prayers and contributions can help him take the next step toward his dream.

If you would like to stand with Lomude or learn how you can support his education, please reach out to us. Together, we can help him build a brighter future.

Thank you for believing in young people like Lomude.

Part 1.

How Does It Feel to Be Uneducated in This Generation?

A personal story from Emmanuel, Founder of The Way Foundation Uganda

Growing up, I never imagined I would one day be counted among the “uneducated/less educated.” But life has a way of testing us in ways we never expect.

In 2016, everything changed.
War broke out in South Sudan, and my family lost everything. My parents who had always believed in education could no longer support my schooling. Political instability and family hardship collided, and suddenly the future I had dreamed of was out of reach.

That same year, I found myself in a refugee camp in Uganda. Life was harsh. Opportunities were scarce. And yet, deep inside, the desire to return to school never left me. I searched for every possible way to continue my education, but every door seemed closed.

Still, God had a different plan.

During my time with YWAM, a missionary organization, something awakened in me. I kept asking myself:

• How do I tell my story?
• How can my pain become purpose?
• How do I help young people who have the passion to study but lack the means just like I did?

That’s when the idea for The Way Foundation was born.
I realized that my story wasn’t just about loss—it was about responsibility. If I had suffered because of political and family setbacks, then surely there were thousands of other young people facing the same struggles. And maybe, just maybe, I could help close that gap.

In 2022, I shared this vision with a friend from Germany. He asked for time to pray about it. A few days later, he came back with a simple but life-changing answer: “Yes, let’s do this.”

And that’s how The Way Foundation began.

Since then, by God’s grace, we have helped hundreds of children return to school—children who were trapped by the same barriers that once held me back. Children who now have hope, dignity, and a future.

So when I speak about the feeling of being uneducated in this generation, I speak from the deepest part of my heart.
It is painful.
It is isolating.
It is a wound that is hard to put into words.

But it is also a reminder of why we must act.

Hey everyone meet Taban Paul a Grateful Student Supported by The Way Foundation Ug.

My name is Taban Paul. I am 22 years old and currently a Senior Six student. I want to sincerely thank The Way Foundation for the incredible support they’ve given me especially in paying my school fees and covering other tuition needs. Their help has truly transformed my life.

The Way Foundation doesn’t just support me; it uplifts many pupils in our community who face financial challenges. By helping us meet our school needs, they’ve brought relief to families and healing to communities burdened by trauma and hardship.

Before The Way Foundation stepped in, my education journey was full of struggle. But since they began supporting me, learning has become easier and more hopeful. Their assistance has allowed my parents to use the little money they earn to buy food for our home and pay school fees for my younger brothers in primary school. That’s a blessing we never imagined.

I trust that The Way Foundation will continue walking with me as I pursue my dream of becoming a successful businessman with global impact. Without their support, achieving that dream would be nearly impossible. Education opens doors to opportunities like scholarships and exposure to new ideas and I’m determined to make the most of it.

However, I still face challenges. Sometimes I struggle to clear the remaining balance of my school fees. We try to explain our situation to the school administration, and while they sometimes understand, there’s no other source of income to help us cover the gap. We truly need help.

I also want to appreciate Prince Emma a man of integrity and discipline. His transparency, love, and wisdom make him a powerful bridge between us and The Way Foundation. His leadership inspires me to believe that becoming a great man is possible, especially with the Foundation’s continued support.

I humbly appeal to all supporters of The Way Foundation: please continue standing with us. There are many promising young boys and girls in our community who are still waiting for someone to believe in them.

Thank you the board for the way foundation Ug for this opportunity.

Part2: Challenges and Resilience

The main challenge I face at school is paying my school fees. Most times, I have an outstanding balance, and sometimes the fees are not paid on time, which affects my studies and school life.

I talk to the people in charge of my fees and explain my situation. They are usually able to come up with a solution, and I manage to overcome the challenge.

Yes, I would like the foundation to pay my complete school fees, including my uniform fees and UNEB fees.

Personal Reflections

My friend Emmanuel inspires me. From him, I learned to trust God and give all my troubles to Him. I also learned to rely more on friends and not struggle through problems alone.

Outside of school, I enjoy learning new things and visiting beautiful places with nature. I also like spending time alone, reflecting on my days, making plans, and talking to God for guidance.

The advice I would give another student is to prioritize their future, stay true to their goals, and remain focused on what they want to achieve. Never give up, no matter the circumstances.

Conclusion and Gratitude

I would like to thank the people of the Way Foundation for accepting to help me and giving me the chance to build a great future.
I am grateful to them for founding the foundation to help others and for believing in education and changing lives.
