Vinnytsia Regional UN Veterans Association

Vinnytsia Regional UN Veterans Association A motivated group of Volunteers, guided by their hearts, helps Internally Displaced Persons and Local Defense.

Vinnitsa Region United Nations Veterans Association (ukr: Вінницька Спілка Ветеранів Миротворчих та Гуманітарних Місій) is a volunteer-based, non governmental, non-profit entity, which was founded in 1999 . The initial core goal was to help individuals, who were taking part in various peacekeeping (UN, OSCE and other) humanitarian missions/operations to reintegrate back into civilian settings, t

o obtain new professions, etc. In recent years, for a variety of reasons, our activities were kept to a minimum, but due to the russian invasion, we decided to get back together and do what we can to contribute in defense of our state and help Internally Displaced Persons. As Vinnitsia became a hub for refugees, there have been thousands of people in need coming in daily. They left their houses and took almost nothing with them. They are deprived of even very basic things, but first of all shelters, food, clothes. The local government resources and capacities are not enough to maintain this huge human inflow. There are local defense units that also are lacking equipment, fuel, and other stuff - so we try to help them as well. Unfortunately, our abilities are limited because we are short of funding. Since many of us used to work in an international environment - we are seeking assistance from our former colleagues and friends.

30 AUG 2024. This strike was carried out by a Russian guided aerial bomb. A strike that would not have happened if our Defense Forces had the ability to destroy Russian military aviation at its bases. We need strong decisions from our partners to stop this terror. This is an absolutely justifiable need. And there is no rational reason to limit Ukraine in its defense. We need long-range capabilities. We need the implementation of agreements regarding air defense for Ukraine. This is about saving lives.

Living through “unprecedented times” can be exhausting. It seems like every headline marks a major historical event: from the intense U.S. presidential election to the record-breaking heat on July 22, 2024, which became the hottest day ever recorded on Earth, to Russia's recent drone attack on Kyiv, the largest this year, with an air alert lasting over seven hours—though Ukraine successfully shot down all 89 drones.

We understand the fatigue—because we feel it, too. But now is not the time to give up. It’s the time to double down, ensuring we’re on the right path toward a better future. Stay engaged, keep up with the news about Ukraine, vote in your elections, and encourage your friends to do the same.

Four volunteers from the Tulchyn community in Vinnytsia region are reequipping vehicles for the military and repairing damaged cars that return from the front lines. They are currently working on three vehicles. One of the volunteers, Ruslan, is busy with a car that was brought back from the eastern front.

"There were complete holes here. We cut them out and are installing new metal to reinforce it, so that it stays intact and doesn't fall apart further," said the volunteer.

It's crucial for military vehicles to be robust, as they transport ammunition and evacuate the wounded, explained the volunteers. To this end, they strengthen the bodies, add additional brackets, and paint the vehicles in protective colors.

"I have many friends at war. In 2014, I was delivering aid to the guys, and I have relatives at the front. I have four children – I think that's the biggest motivation. My health isn't the best, so I can't fight, but I can do something here. And that's what I do," says Ruslan.
