Children’s Rights Made Easy to Understand: An Interactive Lesson for Fifth-Grade Students at Uzhhorod Gymnasium No. 14
On October 15, 2026, an interactive lesson dedicated to children's rights was held at Uzhhorod Gymnasium No. 14. This time, fifth-grade students had the opportunity to learn about important rights-related issues through simple explanations, engaging discussions, and creative activities.
The lesson was led by Polina Malesh, Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Administrative, Financial and Information Law, Faculty of Law, Uzhhorod National University. She was joined by third-year students specializing in Law Enforcement - Valentyna Nemesh, Dominika Mulesa, Anastasiia Popovych, and Anna Hiha - together with Viktoriia Vashkovych, Associate Professor at the Department of Commercial Law.
The meeting began with a conversation about what every child needs to feel happy, safe, and confident. Through simple questions and everyday examples, the students gradually explored the meaning of human rights and discussed why all children, regardless of their background, language, or other differences, are entitled to the same rights.
Using colorful illustrations, the fifth-graders learned about seven fundamental rights: the right to a name, education, family, health, play and rest, safety, and equality. Special attention was given to respect for human dignity, protection against discrimination, and the importance of treating others with kindness and understanding.
One of the highlights of the lesson was the interactive game "Yes or No?", during which the children tested their knowledge, discussed real-life situations, and learned to recognize possible violations of children's rights. At the end of the session, the students took part in a creative activity, drawing pictures of the things they believe every child needs for a happy childhood.
Such educational activities play an important role in helping children understand their own dignity, respect the rights of others, and develop confidence that their rights deserve recognition and protection. Every child should not only know their rights but also feel valued, respected, and included in their school community.
We sincerely thank Ms. Oksana Leheza, Principal of Uzhhorod Gymnasium No. 14, the school administration, and the class teachers for their warm welcome, support, and assistance in organizing the event.
Our special thanks go to Polina Malesh, Viktoriia Vashkovych, Valentyna Nemesh, Dominika Mulesa, Anastasiia Popovych, and Anna Hiha for making the lesson engaging and meaningful, creating a friendly atmosphere, and generously sharing their knowledge with the children.
We believe that introducing children to human rights at an early age helps raise a generation for whom equality, mutual respect, and non-discrimination are fundamental values.
