🇺🇦On September 1st, French Ambassador Brice Roquefeuille, the mayor Ihor Terekhov and Acted Ukraine inaugurated the anti-radiation bomb-shelter rehabilitated by Acted in a school in Kharkiv city.

👩‍🏫For the first time since 2022, Ukrainian children from the rehabilitated school as well as neighboring schools who lack access to a bomb shelter can attend classes in person. Acted carried out major repairs and modernization works on the existing shelter, transforming it into a safe, inclusive and energy-efficient anti-radiation bomb shelter and learning space. The renovated facility includes 5 fully equipped classrooms designed to accommodate up to 160 people.

This inauguration marks the conclusion of the one-year project to rehabilitate 13 public institutions including schools and their bomb shelters, an hospital and 2 care facilities across Ukraine’s frontline regions of Chernihiv, Sumy and Kharkiv. With the support of in the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Crisis and support center, this project directly supported more than 10,000 people in northern Ukraine.

🤝Acted will continue to support public infrastructure rehabilitation in Kharkiv region through an ongoing partnership with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Crisis and support center.

region - Konotop, a city located less than 60 kilometers from the frontline is still heavily impacted by the war. Maintaining safe conditions and uninterrupted learning in this area is an ongoing challenge since 2022. Teachers and children face frequent air raid sirens, aerial threats and attacks almost daily, limiting access to a safe in-person education. Acted, through the RestoreUA project, supported by the Crisis and Support Centre of French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (France Diplomatie), rehabilitated a school in Konotop to facilitate safety, energy efficiency, and learning conditions for students and school staff. As an essential hub for local families, the school needed heavy rehabilitation works to ensure children wouldn't lose access to safe, in-person education, preserving a crucial sense of stability and normalcy for the entire community.

«We are profoundly grateful for this support. Our modest budget barely covers essential utilities, leaving no room for major energy-efficiency upgrades or safety enhancements. Thanks to these interventions, our school is now much warmer, draft-free, and comfortable. Most importantly, the anti-blast film gives us a real sense of security, protecting our children from flying glass in case of an attack. This isn't just about repairs; it’s about giving our children a safe space to learn, hope, and feel cared for.» - Alona, head of educational department of the Konotop city council.

Through this initiative, crucial improvements were carried out: new modern windows fitted with anti-blast protective film were installed, radiators were replaced, energy-efficient lighting was set up throughout the building, and two entrance porches were fully rehabilitated. Together, these upgrades made the educational facility safer and brought much-needed warmth during harsh winter periods for more than 100 children and more than 20 school staff members.

Забезпечення безпечних умов і безперервного навчального процесу в цьому регіоні залишається постійним викликом починаючи з 2022 року. Вчителі та діти майже щодня стикаються з частими сигналами повітряної тривоги, загрозою з повітря та обстрілами, що обмежує доступ до безпечного очного навчання.
Організація Acted у межах проєкту RestoreUA, за підтримки Центру криз та підтримки Міністерства Європи та закордонних справ Франції (France Diplomatie), провела ремонтні роботи в одній із шкіл Конотопа, щоб підвищити рівень безпеки, енергоефективності та покращити умови навчання для учнів і колективу закладу. Оскільки школа є важливим осередком для місцевих родин, вона потребувала масштабного відновлення, аби діти не втратили можливість навчатися очно й безпечно, зберігаючи вкрай необхідне відчуття стабільності та нормального життя для всієї громади.
«Ми щиро вдячні за цю підтримку. Наш скромний бюджет ледь покриває базові комунальні послуги, не залишаючи можливості для масштабних заходів з енергоефективності чи підвищення рівня безпеки. Завдяки цим роботам у нашій школі стало значно тепліше, зникли протяги й створилися комфортні умови. Найважливіше — протиуламкова плівка дарує справжнє відчуття захищеності, оберігаючи наших дітей від уламків скла в разі атаки. Це не просто ремонт — це забезпечення для наших дітей безпечного простору, де вони можуть навчатися, сподіватися на краще й відчувати турботу», — зазначила Альона, начальник управління освіти Конотопської міської ради.
У межах цієї ініціативи було виконано ключові роботи: встановлено нові сучасні вікна, оснащені захисною протиуламковою плівкою, замінено радіатори опалення, змонтовано енергоефективне освітлення по всій будівлі, а також повністю відремонтовано два вхідні ґанки. Завдяки цим оновленням навчальний заклад став безпечнішим, а для понад 100 дітей та більше ніж 20 працівників школи вдалося забезпечити необхідне тепло під час суворих зимових періодів.

Safety, warmth, and the opportunity to keep learning are essential, even in times of war, when learning must continue underground.

Acted recently fully renovated and equipped a room in the underground school bomb shelter in Konotop, a northern Ukrainian city approximately located 65 km from the frontline. The shelter`s room was transformed into a dedicated classroom to ensure uninterrupted, safe learning for around 400 students and school staff, even when the city is under aerial attack.
To create a comfortable and secure environment, the space underwent a complete renovation with freshly painted walls, upgraded lighting, and an installed ventilation system to allow use of the shelter for longer periods of time. The classroom was fully furnished with comfortable desks, chairs, and a whiteboard, and equipped with a high-capacity charging station to keep devices operational at all times, even during power outages. Now, during air raid alerts, students can continue their lessons in a secure, well-lit, and functional space without losing access to quality education.
"Unfortunately, children are forced to learn in shelters due to constant shelling, which is why expanding the bomb shelter space was extremely important for us. It comes down to the accessibility of education: many cannot study remotely, and parents are unable to monitor their children's studies and safety because they are working. They are very happy that there will now be more in-person classes thanks to the new classroom."Olena, Principal of the school.

Working in healthcare near the frontline means operating under relentless pressure. In Sumy region, air raid sirens can last up to 20 hours, while medical staff face an overwhelming flow of patients suffering from the impacts of ongoing war. To support these local heroes, Acted, with generous funding from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Crisis and Support Center, repaired the hospital’s traumatology department. The RestoreUA project rehabilitated patient rooms, sanitation and staff facilities—including a meal distribution room, a treatment room, and utility rooms completed entirely on a turnkey basis—while repairing corridors and installing a vital nurse call system directly in patient rooms for immediate assistance.
«This has improved the conditions for patients, as they stay here for extended periods and are mostly bed-bound,» says Raisa Mykolaivna, Deputy Director of the Hospital. «The alert system, in particular, made a significant difference, allowing nurses to respond to a patient's call in a timely manner. »
With every repaired room and functional space, this project creates a safe haven for recovery and brings crucial infrastructure improvements to a hospital team working on the frontlines of human care.

Робота у сфері охорони здоров’я поблизу лінії фронту означає постійне функціонування в умовах безперервного тиску. У Сумській області повітряна тривога може тривати до 20 годин поспіль, тоді як медичний персонал стикається з колосальним потоком пацієнтів, які постраждали від наслідків триваючої війни. Щоб підтримати цих місцевих героїв, організація Acted за щедрої фінансової підтримки Міністерства Європи та закордонних справ Франції через Центр кризових ситуацій та підтримки відремонтувала травматологічне відділення лікарні. У межах проєкту RestoreUA було оновлено палатні приміщення, санітарні та побутові зони — зокрема роздаткову кімнату, маніпуляційну та кімнати персоналу, які було повністю виконано «під ключ», — а також відремонтовано коридори та встановлено вкрай необхідну систему виклику медсестри безпосередньо в палатах для надання негайної допомоги.

«Це суттєво покращило умови для пацієнтів, адже вони перебувають у нас тривалий час і здебільшого є маломобільними, — зазначає Раїса Миколаївна, заступниця директора лікарні. — Особливо важливу роль зіграла система оповіщення: вона дає змогу медсестрам вчасно реагувати на виклик пацієнта».

З кожною відремонтованою палатою та функціональним приміщенням цей проєкт створює безпечний простір для одужання та забезпечує критично важливе покращення інфраструктури для команди лікарні, яка працює на передовій турботи про людей.

«Ця підтримка не лише покращує побутові умови, вона піднімає дух як пацієнтів, так і нашого персоналу. Викладатися на всі 100% щодня стає значно легше, коли знаєш, що маєш належні умови для допомоги людям у таких напружених обставинах», — ділиться Сабіна, старша медична сестра.

Проєкт RestoreUA відновив місцеві заклади охорони здоров'я та соціальні установи у Сумській, Харківській та Чернігівській областях. Ми раді повідомити, що NRC разом з Acted, Право на захист, та їх партнерами, створили Консорціум «Єдність».

Консорціум фінансується Гуманітарним фондом для України (ГФУ). Його метою є допомога певним людям, які найбільше постраждали від війни, включно з переміщеними сім'ями та іншими вразливими домогосподарствами по всій Україні.

Підтримка надаватиметься через грошові перекази, щоб допомогти людям задовольнити свої найважливіші повсякденні потреби та покращити їх житлові умови. Грошові перекази є гнучкими та надаватимуться протягом обмеженого періоду. Кожне домогосподарство зможе вирішити, як використовувати допомогу, виходячи з того, що йому найбільше потрібно, наприклад, сплата оренди, купівля харчових продуктів, ліків чи інших предметів першої необхідності. Безпосереднє надання готівки дозволяє людям зробити власний вибір, швидше отримати допомогу, а також підтримати місцевий бізнес та ринки.

Консорціум «Єдність» надаватиме підтримку у восьми прифронтових областях: Чернігівській, Сумській, Харківській, Донецькій, Дніпропетровській, Запорізькій, Херсонській та Миколаївській. Проєкт також підтримуватиме людей, які перетинають гуманітарний коридор Мокрани-Доманове у Волинській області.

We are glad to announce that NRC, together with Acted, Right to Protection Право на захист, and its partners, has launched the Yednist Consortium.

The consortium is funded by the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund (UHF). Its goal is to help some of the people who are most affected by the war, including displaced families and other vulnerable households across Ukraine. The support will come through cash transfers to help people meet their most important everyday needs and improve their living conditions.

Сash transfers are flexible and provided for a limited period. Each household can decide how to use assistance based on what they need most, such as paying rent, buying food, medicine or other essential items. Giving cash directly allows people to make their own choices, receive help more quickly, and also supports local businesses and markets.

The Yednist Consortium will provide support in eight frontline oblasts: Chernihivska, Sumska, Kharkivska, Donetska, Dnipropetrovska, Zaporizka, Khersonska and Mykolaivska. The project will also support people crossing through the Mokrany-Domanove humanitarian corridor in Volynska oblast.

Cash assistance remains one of the most practical and dignified ways to support families affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine. Having the flexibility to purchase groceries, medicine, or essential winter supplies allows households to prioritize what they need most during critical moments.
To support those facing severe hardship, Acted in partnership with the Estonian Refugee Council provided multi-purpose cash assistance to vulnerable conflict-affected communities across Ukraine. This joint initiative, implemented with funding from the European Union, aimed to relieve immediate financial pressure and help families meet their most urgent daily needs.
Direct support gives households control over their choices, helping maintain stability and personal dignity under challenging frontline conditions.
Under this project, Acted has supported over 32,000 individuals with direct cash assistance.

Грошова допомога залишається одним із найдієвіших та найбільш поважних способів допомогти родинам, які відчули на собі увесь тягар війни в Україні. Свобода вибору — чи то придбати продукти, ліки, чи підготуватися до холодів — дає людям змогу самостійно вирішувати, що для них є найважливішим у вирішальний момент.
Аби зарадити тим, хто опинився у скруті, організація Acted у співпраці з Естонською радою у справах біженців реалізувала програму багатоцільової грошової допомоги для вразливих верств населення по всій країні. Ця спільна ініціатива за фінансового сприяння Європейського Союзу покликана послабити фінансовий тиск та допомогти родинам пережити найскладніші дні.
Можливість самостійно розпоряджатися допомогою повертає людям відчуття контролю над власним життям, допомагаючи зберігати витримку та людську гідність у суворих умовах прифронтових територій.

As part of the SYLA project, Strengthening disaster preparedness and early response capacities of Local Actors, provides civil protection departments across Ukraine with the material support they need to respond to emergencies.

🧰 On May 6, Regional Area Coordinator Emma Berkhout visited the Mykhailivka and Shyrokyvska communities in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, where the donated equipment is already part of daily operations for civil protection specialists.

📍 In the Shyrokyvska community, this equipment is helping to set up a response room in the new Community Safety Center.

The SYLA project, funded by the European Union, unites the efforts of the Ukrainian Red Cross, the German Red Cross, the Danish Red Cross, Acted and IMPACT Initiatives to strengthen community capacities in disaster preparedness and early response.

⛓The aluminum plant in Halytsynove hromada located in Mykolaivska Oblast where Liubov and her husband were working had to close down when the war in Ukraine started. From one day to another they both lost their source of income.

🤝With support of the European Union EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid, Acted provided a grant to Liubov to help her and her husband recover their livelihoods.

🐓Thanks to the grant, Liubov bought chickens and she has been able to economically support her family by selling the meat and eggs in the local market.

✅In total, Acted has provided 1,395 livelihood grants to support vulnerable people living in the frontline restore their livelihoods while supporting the local economy.

⛓Алюмінієвий завод у Миколаївській області, де працювали Любов та її чоловік, був змушений припинити роботу після початку війни в Україні. В одну мить подружжя втратило своє основне джерело доходу.

🤝За підтримки Європейського Союзу організацією Acted було надано грант Любові, щоб допомогти їй відновити засоби до існування.

🐓Завдяки гранту Любов придбала курей і змогла забезпечувати свою родину, продаючи м’ясо та яйця на місцевому ринку.

✅Загалом Acted надав 1395 грантів на відновлення засобів до існування для підтримки вразливих людей, які проживають у прифронтових районах, сприяючи відновленню їхніх джерел доходу та розвитку місцевої економіки.

👉With the support of Управління ООН з координації гуманітарних справ / OCHA Ukraine Acted and its partners БО БФ Ранок Відродження and CO «Light of Hope»/БО «Світло надії» provide targeted, life-saving cash and protection assistance to the most severely conflict-affected across 8 frontline oblasts, prioritizing areas less than 50km from active frontlines in Chernihivska, Sumska, Kharkivska, Dnipropetrovska, Zaporizka, Donetska, Mykolaivska and Khersonska oblasts.

💵Cash assistance is a dignified way of helping beneficiaries by providing them the flexibility to address the most urgent needs, while also supporting the local economy.

👥Beneficiaries will also receive mental health support and legal support to restore lost or damaged documents and access government assistance.

The project —that started in April and will have a duration of 6 months— will provide support to more than 60,000 vulnerable war-affected people.
