Meet Olga and Vasil.
In February 2022, they fled their home in Moshcun during the invasion of Ukraine. When they returned months later, their house, like most in the town, had been destroyed. The streets around them, including the area surrounding their home, was littered with shell remnants and the tragic aftermath of the fighting, including bodies left behind.
They had lost everything they spent a lifetime building, including photo albums filled with memories of their youth and of their two sons, who they now rarely see due to the war.
We met Olga and Vasil in October 2024. With support from local charities and the UNHCR, they’ve rebuilt their home with new walls, a roof, and windows. We installed one of our stoves to keep them warm through the winter, when temperatures can drop below -20°C and frequent gas/power outages leave homes without heating. Unlike gas/electric heating, this stove will keep working—no matter what.
