Charitable Fund "Rainbow Children" Ukraine, Syeverodonets'k is an organization set up to help children with autism, epilepsy, developmental delay and similar conditions. All these children share difficulty in communication, they are completely or partially non-verbal. They are continuously frustrated because we, adults, cannot understand them, and they cannot express what is going on in their mind
s. This isolation creates a wide chasm between those children and society. In Ukraine, the rights of these children to receive education, to be socialized, to preserve their intelligence are not recognized. All they are allowed to do is take neuroleptics and quietly sit at home without causing anyone discomfort. When we had enough of waiting for government funds that never came, when got tired of asking for the things we were entitled to by law, we – parents of the children with special needs – decided to join our forces. May 25 2010 we registered Syeverodonets'k Charitable Foundation “Rainbow Children” and this foundation opened our Center. We really tried to make it warm and welcoming, so that our children could feel themselves like in a cozy nest. So that all the environment would be directed towards one goal: to give our children that communicational thread that will lead them into our world. We took the best therapy methods, gathered wonderful staff of therapists, created kind and joyful atmosphere. And we began to witness small miracles; our children blossomed before our eyes. They finally received as much attention and opportunity to show off their talents as they could possibly absorb. And there is nothing better than to hear your child pronounce his first phonemes, incorrectly, but with great effort tries to pronounce his first word, there is nothing better than to see them trying to tumble or sing a song. We have no limitations, we never say “they won’t be able to do this or that”. We say:” They cannot do it YET”. And even if they never manage to do it, there is something we can offer in return.
