A great woman leaves more than achievements behind — she leaves a legacy strong enough to inspire the next generation to continue what she began. In 2026, this idea took on a powerful new form when Dr Natalia Golubenko, daughter of the distinguished scholar and public leader Dr Lidiya Golubenko, established a series of academic conferences known as the Golubenko Readings in honour of her mother’s memory, scientific contribution and public service.
Dr Lidiya Golubenko was a renowned Doctor of Sciences, Head of the Department of Romance and Germanic Philology at Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University, a politician, public figure and the first President of the International Club of Successful Women — WORLD WOMAN CLUB. Her life and work united academia, international cooperation and women’s leadership, and the new initiative created by her daughter demonstrates one of the most meaningful forms of continuity: when a mother’s ideas and values continue to grow through the next generation.
The Golubenko Readings are developing as an intellectual and public platform dedicated not only to preserving Dr Golubenko’s memory, but also to continuing the ideas she represented. Associated with the academic traditions of Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University and International Humanities University, the conferences bring together scholars, educators, colleagues and students to discuss philology, education, international cooperation and related fields of research. This philosophy became especially important through the International Club of Successful Women — WORLD WOMAN CLUB, where Dr Lidiya Golubenko served as the first international president. Together with the Club’s founder, Dr Olga Azarova, she helped shape a culture of relations between women leaders based on mutual respect, professional ethics, loyalty, cooperation and support. The aim was to create more than a professional network: it was to build a community in which successful women could strengthen one another rather than compete destructively. These principles later became part of the Code of Honour of the International Club of Successful Women and continue to influence its international community across business, science, education, medicine and public life.
The legacy of Dr Lidiya Golubenko now continues in several directions at once. Through Dr Natalia Golubenko, her scientific and academic contribution is being preserved and developed. Through the Golubenko Readings, new generations of researchers and professionals continue the intellectual dialogue she helped shape. The Golubenko Readings are therefore much more than a memorial conference. Dr Lidiya Golubenko’s legacy continues in all three ways — through her daughter, her colleagues, the women she inspired and the communities that still develop the principles she helped establish.
