Some humanitarian aid stories are big and dramatic.
Others involve a border crossing, a broken-down car, a leaky van, a Ukrainian mechanic working magic with mystery parts, and a $50 repair that somehow keeps everything moving.
This firsthand story from Rich Comeau, UAid Direct USA Secretary/Director and volunteer currently in Ukraine, is a very real look at what βa day in the lifeβ actually means for volunteers helping deliver aid.
It is messy. It is stressful. It is occasionally absurd. And it is exactly why donations matter.
Because donated supplies do not move themselves. Vans need fuel. Vehicles break. Tires go flat. Repairs happen in whatever garage, shed, or miracle-working mechanic shop can be found.
