🚨 IVC Needs Your Support

Friends, we have some important news to share.

After many years of serving volunteers, supporting humanitarian initiatives, and building an international community in Ukraine, IVC is now facing the real possibility of closing its doors.

To continue operating through the end of 2026, we need to raise **$24,000 within the next three weeks.**

These funds will allow us to:
✅ keep our center open and operational;
✅ continue hosting and coordinating volunteers;
✅ support foreign nationals who have obtained visas and residence permits through IVC;
✅ carry on our humanitarian and community programs.

If we are unable to raise the necessary funds by the end of June, IVC will be forced to cease operations.

We are reaching out to everyone who has been part of our journey—volunteers, friends, partners, and supporters.

Every donation matters. Every share matters. Every connection to a potential donor matters.

Think about it: if each member of our community helped raise just **$100**, we would already be close to reaching our goal.

Today, we are asking for more than financial support. We are asking for help preserving a community that has brought people from around the world together in support of Ukraine for many years.

Our friends at Pivden Hub are hosting a wonderful event — join us!

On June 6, at Pivden Cultural Hub in Lviv, we will present Walls, a graphic novel about the cultural heritage of the Kherson region — a heritage that continues to live despite war, occupation, and destruction.

We deliberately chose this date.

June 6 marks the anniversary of the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant. It is the day when floodwaters submerged dozens of towns and villages along the lower Dnipro River. A day of immense environmental and humanitarian catastrophe, the consequences of which we are still living through.

Along with homes, gardens, and streets, the floodwaters also engulfed cultural heritage.

In Nova Kakhovka, the famous “Stone Embroideries” suffered damage — a unique form of monumental art that activists from the NGO Nova Kakhovka Society for Cultural Heritage Protection spent years introducing to Ukraine and the wider world.

In Oleshky, the painted house of Polina Raiko, a renowned self-taught folk artist, was almost completely destroyed. The world learned about her remarkable work largely after the catastrophe caused by the flooding.

That is why Walls is not only a story about loss.

It is a graphic novel about the people who, long before the full-scale invasion, were already preserving, documenting, researching, and protecting this heritage.

It is about people who continue this work even when access to these places is impossible.

Through archives.

Through art.

Through memory.

Through new cultural narratives.

The graphic novel tells three stories:

— The Stone Embroideries of Nova Kakhovka;
— Polina Raiko’s House in Oleshky;
— The Tyahyn Fortress in the right-bank part of Kherson region — on liberated land that remains under constant threat from the aggressor.

These are stories not only about heritage, but also about the communities that form around it.

About the determination of people who refuse to let memory disappear.

Program:

Over two days, visitors explored the stories of Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson regions, Crimea, and Zaporizhzhia through lectures, workshops, excursions, board games, and conversations with guests from Southern Ukraine and experts in history and culture.

The event aimed to build stronger connections between different parts of Ukraine, challenge stereotypes about the South, and create space for learning, dialogue, and mutual interest.

The festival took place at Cultural Hub South and the International Volunteer Center in Lviv, with the support of our partners:

Wives of military service members joined us to spend time together in a calm and supportive atmosphere. This Sunday, we decorated pysanky 🪺 — connecting with an ancient Ukrainian tradition of egg painting using wax and dyes.

It was a small but important space for restoration: a moment of relaxation, a bit of quiet, and a chance to step away from daily stress, even if just for a while.

🌍 Historical Festival “The Uncharted South”

An interuniversity initiative presenting the southern regions of Ukraine — Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson, Crimea, and Zaporizhzhia — to Lviv.

On March 24, a Russian drone attack hit central Lviv, striking residential buildings and causing fires.
In the first minutes after the strike, volunteers were among the first to respond, acting before emergency services fully secured the area.

Among them was Cyprian Chmielewski, a volunteer from Poland, who entered a burning building and helped evacuate residents, guiding an elderly woman to safety.
Alongside other volunteers, he contributed to the immediate response by assisting with evacuation, supporting basic medical needs, and helping clear access for firefighters.

Last Thursday IVC helped to deliver and send out some goods from a warehouse for Frontline Medics NGO. We found a french volunteer Mathieu who was very glad to help, so big thanks to him.
