10 vehicles fully loaded with essential medical supplies. Months of preparation. Dozens of donors, volunteers and organisations across the UK and Ukraine.
Convoy 2026 was one of the most complex projects Ukrainian Medical Charity has coordinated this year, bringing together fundraising, vehicles, medical supplies, volunteer drivers and partners across two countries.
Since April, together with our City and Livery partners, we organised a series of fundraising events and initiatives that raised £32,363 towards the project and helped fund seven vehicles. Three more vehicles were made possible with the support of Plast London, our transport partners and other supporters.
Fundraising was only the beginning. Our team and volunteers coordinated the purchase, servicing and preparation of the vehicles, budgets and documentation, insurance, collection points across the UK, volunteer drivers and the journey itself. At the same time, we collected medical and rehabilitation equipment and other essential supplies to make sure the vehicles travelled to Ukraine fully loaded.
Once in Ukraine, we worked closely with our partners to make sure every vehicle and its cargo reached the right recipients.
The vehicles have now been distributed across Kyiv, Lviv, Sumy, the Kharkiv region and other frontline locations, where they will support medical teams and hospitals working around the clock in extremely difficult conditions.
The medical and rehabilitation supplies carried by the vehicles were distributed across 20 locations in Ukraine, including Vasylkiv Multidisciplinary Intensive Care Hospital.
What looks like one convoy was in reality months of fundraising, purchasing, servicing, paperwork, loading, driving, border crossings, handovers and constant communication between people in the UK and Ukraine.
Our role at Ukrainian Medical Charity was to connect all these moving parts and turn the generosity, time and effort of so many people into practical support where it was needed most.
