Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common s*xually transmitted infections. Most s*xually active people will come into contact with the virus at some point in their lives, often without even knowing it.

In many cases, HPV causes no symptoms and goes away on its own. However, some types of the virus can lead to cervical cancer and other forms of cancer.

Why are we talking about this?

Club Eney works with women who often face barriers to accessing healthcare, prevention services, and reliable health information. S*x workers, women who use drugs, women in difficult life circumstances, and women living in frontline communities frequently have limited access to regular health screenings and medical services.

That is why raising awareness about HPV, prevention, and the importance of regular screening is an important part of our work to protect women's health and rights.

How can you reduce your risk?

🔹 Get vaccinated against HPV (the most effective method of prevention).
🔹 Use condoms during s*xual activity.
🔹 Have regular gynecological check-ups.
🔹 Get Pap tests and other screenings recommended by your healthcare provider.
🔹 Do not delay seeking medical advice if you experience symptoms or have concerns about your health.

Every woman deserves access to prevention, quality healthcare, and reliable information about her health.

As part of Club Eney’s advocacy efforts, our expert, Alina Sarnatska, met with Ana Lejava, Senior Policy Officer at the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security.

During the meeting, Alina called on the Institute to support the position of Ukrainian civil society organizations regarding the new draft Civil Code of Ukraine. The discussion focused on the potential impact of the proposed changes on the work of non-governmental organizations and the broader development of civil society in Ukraine.

They also discussed the documentation of war crimes committed by Russian occupying forces, as well as Club Eney’s work to support women from vulnerable groups. In particular, they spoke about projects assisting s*x workers and women who use drugs, especially in frontline communities where access to support and services is often limited.

It is important for us that the voices of Ukrainian civil society are heard internationally and that the needs of vulnerable communities remain on the agenda of international partners.

Svitlana (name changed) joined the WINGS sessions in Zhytomyr last winter. She was working and fully supporting herself and her home. At the same time, she had been in a relationship for a long period that was not safe and gradually undermined her self-confidence.

«I began to see myself and my possibilities differently. I developed a better understanding of my boundaries and a stronger sense of self, and I allowed myself to seek support.»

Over time, Svitlana was able to reach out for help and protect herself, and the perpetrator was held accountable. This decision became an important step on her path toward a safer life.

During WINGS sessions, we work together with women to develop individual safety plans. What is it and why does it matter?

Understanding gender-based violence, recognizing its forms, overcoming the fear of judgment, and acknowledging the responsibility of the perpetrator are important steps on the path to recovery and freedom. At the same time, knowledge alone is not enough to change the situation.

That is why we work with safety plans. It is a practical tool that helps a woman identify her support system, gather important contacts in one place, assess risks, and outline concrete steps to increase her safety and gradually move toward a more stable and independent life, including economic independence.

What would you include in your safety plan? Share your thoughts in the comments 💬

At the end of April, a 5-day training «Improvisation for Advocacy WINGS» took place in Dnipro, bringing together women leaders working in organizations that advocate for the rights of women from key populations, including women living with HIV, women with experience of drug use, and s*x workers.

Throughout the week, participants not only deepened their understanding of advocacy fundamentals, but also worked on building self-confidence, learning to express their views clearly and assertively, respond quickly in unpredictable situations, and find strong and relevant answers to challenging and unexpected questions. Particular attention was given to public speaking skills, audience engagement, and working with emotions — both their own and those of others.

Through practical exercises and interactive formats, participants had the opportunity to safely experiment, support one another, and gradually step beyond their comfort zones, discovering new ways of self-expression and influence. This approach not only provides knowledge but also strengthens participants’ readiness to engage in advocacy.

The training was held as part of the advocacy component of the project addressing gender-based violence, «Women with Intersecting Marginalizations Initiating New Goals of Safety in Ukraine», and aims to strengthen women’s voices and support their active participation in decision-making at the local level.

Despite significant progress in HIV prevention and treatment, women still often learn about their HIV status at later stages, when symptoms have already appeared.

Due to stigma, fear of judgment, or a false sense of safety in relationships, testing is often delayed or happens incidentally. For example, during pregnancy or hospitalization. Although HIV testing in Ukraine is free, confidential, and accessible, with rapid results available in about 30 minutes, health programmes do not always systematically include regular testing.

What does early HIV detection provide? It enables timely initiation of antiretroviral therapy, allowing people to live full and healthy lives, prevent transmission to partners, and have HIV-negative children. Effective prevention methods are also available, including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).

Civil society organizations play a crucial role in early HIV detection. They work directly with women and key populations, help overcome fear and stigma, provide testing, ensure linkage to treatment, and offer essential support.

Thanks to this work, HIV prevention and treatment services become not only available, but truly accessible to those who need them most 🤍

Let’s continue raising awareness about the importance of regular HIV testing to build a healthier and safer society!

As you know, we run a medical reimbursement programme for women from key communities, and today we would like to share one of the stories.

One of our participants, currently living in Kryvyi Rih, is a middle-aged woman who found herself in difficult life circumstances due to prolonged stress caused by forced displacement. Despite this, she did not lose her determination to rebuild her life.

Over time, her health significantly deteriorated, with hormonal disorders and overall exhaustion affecting her well-being. This became a major barrier, as without restoring her health, she was unable to return to work or regain stability. Despite financial difficulties, she took an important step by seeking help and being ready to undergo medical examinations and treatment.

With the support of Club Eney, she received reimbursement for her medical expenses. This enabled her to access timely diagnostics, purchase necessary medications, and begin treatment. However, a key factor in this positive change was her own determination to act, not give up, and invest in her health.

Today, her condition has significantly improved. She is gradually returning to an active life, feeling more energetic and confident in her abilities. Restoring her health became the first and crucial step toward further change, including the possibility of returning to work and supporting herself.

In her own words:
«I am sincerely grateful to Club Eney for the support at a time when I didn’t know where else to turn. Thanks to you, I was able to start treatment and feel alive again. Thank you for your care, humanity, and support.»

Our friends from Ukraine Solidarity Bus continue to stand with us! This time bringing essential goods that make a real difference for our communities.

We are sincerely grateful for this support. In times of uncertainty, this initiative is critically important, as it enables us to stay close to those who need it most and respond quickly to their needs by providing the support that is urgently required.

We believe that sustainable partnerships are the foundation of long-term change and the ability to support people systematically, not only in times of crisis. Thanks to you, we are able to do more: to be there, to support, to restore a sense of safety, and to bring hope.

💙💛
