E AID is chaired by Jim Fitzpatrick MP and is managed by a Steering Committee of its founding members including UK Rescue Organisation, World Rescue Organisation, Operation Florian, SESHAA, BESAFE, Fire Safety Friends of Russia, EASST, Blythswood Care, and Kent Fire & Rescue Service. We work with fire and rescue services across the world to strengthen emergency response where it’s needed most.

This Small Charity Week, we want to highlight the impact that small organisations can create when they work globally and collaboratively.

If you believe in this mission, help us spread the word — tell your friends and networks about FIRE AID so more people can learn about the work we do and the communities we support.

Every share helps grow this community.

Getting a fire engine to Ghana: mission (im)possible

For FIRE AID, this was the result of a long and coordinated effort, combining logistics, trust, expertise, and strong partnerships to make this transfer possible.

With support from RAF Brize Norton and 99 Squadron, this Mercedes-Benz fire tender made the journey from the UK to Accra, where it was received by the Ghana National Fire Service.

Behind every vehicle transfer is a great deal of unseen coordination. But that effort matters because when the right equipment reaches the right firefighters, it can make a real difference.

Thanks to all our partners and friends who were part of this effort:
Ghana National Fire Service
RAF Brize Norton
Ghana High Commission United Kingdom
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service / Gwasanaeth Tân ac Achub Gogledd Cymru

72 people lost their lives 9 years ago today in a fire that should never have spread in the way that it did.

Safety in your own home isn’t a privilege of where you happen to live. It’s owed to everyone, everywhere.

Everyone across our network remembers them, their families, their friends, and their community today. We won’t forget.

Volunteers’ Week is an opportunity to recognise the people who make this work possible.

To every volunteer who gives their time, skills, energy, and heart — thank you.

You are the ones who deliver training, support communities, share knowledge, and help build resilience where it is needed most. Your dedication turns ideas into action and ensures that support reaches those who need it.

At its core, humanitarian and international development work depends on people willing to step forward and make a difference. Quite simply, this work would not happen without volunteers.

Thank you for everything you do. Together, we are building stronger, safer, and more resilient communities 🫂

This time last month, we were honoured to support the handover of a fire appliance from North Wales — made possible thanks to the support of the RAF Brize Norton.

Today, we pause to remember Air Specialist (Class 1) Samuel ‘Sam’ Odotei, who sadly passed away on 17 January 2025.

Sam was an Avionics tradesperson with 99 Squadron, based at RAF Brize Norton. After joining the Royal Air Force in 2021, he quickly became a valued member of his team, known for his dedication, technical skill and the genuine care he showed towards those around him.

Those who served alongside Sam remember also his warmth, enthusiasm and the positivity he brought to every team he was part of. His passion for RAF Basketball and his commitment to supporting others reflected the spirit of service he carried throughout his career.

We are grateful to have been connected with the RAF community through this collaboration, and we extend our deepest condolences to Sam’s family, friends and colleagues. Sam’s contribution and the difference he made will be remembered.

These are the words of Declan Coleman, a FIRE AID volunteer who recently visited Ukraine as part of a fire engine donation. His experience reflects the strength of the global firefighting community — united by service, courage, and solidarity.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support Ukrainian firefighters and the communities they serve.

If this story resonated with you, please share it further!

With support from Tellus Conservation, FIRE AID recently delivered a 4x4 fire appliance to the Charitable Foundation for Nature Recovery of Ukraine.

We are deeply grateful to Tellus Conservation for making this project possible and for supporting the protection of Ukraine’s natural landscapes during wartime.

Ukraine is home to around 31% of Europe’s biodiversity and some of the continent’s most important wetlands, steppe habitats and ancient forests. Protecting these landscapes during wartime is critical.

The vehicle was transported from the United Kingdom to Lviv, where it was handed over to volunteer firefighters together with practical training for safe and effective use in conservation areas.

This is only part of the ongoing project — later this year, two more 4x4 wildfire response vehicles will be delivered to strengthen wildfire response capacity across Ukraine’s protected landscapes 🌿

Another night of mass Russian attacks across Ukraine became another night of relentless work for Ukrainian rescuers.

This is the daily reality for Ukraine’s first responders. They continue showing up despite exhaustion, danger, and targeted attacks on civilian infrastructure and emergency services.

Supporting Ukrainian rescuers means supporting those who stand between civilians and catastrophe every single day. By donating, you help provide rescuers with critical protective equipment, emergency response gear, firefighting tools, medical supplies, and psychological support resources needed to continue saving lives under extreme conditions.

Every contribution directly strengthens the ability of Ukrainian emergency crews to respond faster, work safer, and protect more civilians during attacks.

"You didn't just donate a vehicle, you donated time, the most precious resource in firefighting."

This vehicle was donated to fight bush fires.
18 months on in Bono East, Ghana, it's been first and only responder 73 times.

Last Thursday, Ukrainian people faced one of the hardest days of the war so far. 30 hours of constant air attacks.

Rescuers forced into danger to save lives.

Tragically, Kyiv was hit hard by missiles, resulting in a large number of fatalities. Rescuers worked for 28 hours under the constant fear of a possible double tap attack.

We support Ukrainian rescuers with independent mental health support, allowing a safe space where they can process emotions without judgement.
