From 1 to 11 August, Plast members — Ukrainian Scouts — took part in the Fratellanza dei Pirati Scout Camp in Casale Monferrato, Italy. Together with Italian Scouts, we spent ten days at a camp organised by AGESCI - Associazione Guide e Scouts Cattolici Italiani .

This year’s camp focused on brotherhood — embracing others and recognising the value of every person around us.

Ukrainian and Italian Scouts lived and camped together, with two or three Ukrainian Scouts joining each patrol.

Ukrainian Scouts also shared our traditions with our Italian friends. Together, we made motanka dolls and traditional Christmas spiders, learned about the Ukrainian Nativity play, vyshyvanka and traditions, cooked borscht and kutia.

In return, we discovered Italian Scouting — its songs, prayers, traditions and camp life. Scouts from both countries went hiking together, visited a church and explored Casale Monferrato.

Another special moment was the totem name ceremony, giving us an opportunity to experience another Italian Scouting tradition and learn more about its culture and practices.

After the camp, we also had the opportunity to visit a Scout base in Colico and continue discovering the Italian Scouting movement.

Ten days together showed us something simple: you do not have to speak the same language to become friends.

“Siamo tutti sulla stessa barca” — “We are all in the same boat”. Because together, we support one another, overcome challenges and move forward. This is the spirit of scout brotherhood we are taking home with us.

Thank you to Enzo Amich for helping us with transportation and providing a bus, and to Mayor Paolo Lavagno for making it possible to hold the camp in the protected area of Ponzano Monferrato. Thanks to group leaders Alessandra Bonino and Lorenzo Biagioni, as well as Scout leaders Elena Claudi, Giulia Scarrone, Luca De Simoni, Lavinia Blanco and Chiara Bergnach.

We are also grateful to Michelangelo Rapisardi and Maria Letizia De Bellis for their help with accommodation and for accompanying us to the Scout base in Colico.

For ten unforgettable days, the cub scouts of Plast’s troop stepped into a story that felt like a fairytale come to life. In sunny San Severo, Italy, they shared an international Scout camp with Scouts from Italy and France, discovering not only a new country but also new friendships, new cultures, and the true spirit of the global Scout Movement.

Although we spoke different languages, it didn’t take long to realise that a smile, a helping hand, teamwork, campfires, games, songs, and laughter are understood everywhere. That’s how friendships without borders begin.

This international camp became a powerful learning experience for our young Scouts. It strengthened their confidence, encouraged openness and mutual respect, and showed them how much we can learn from one another while celebrating our differences. Every day brought new adventures, meaningful connections, and memories that will stay with them for years to come.

Our journey didn’t end when the camp was over. We were incredibly grateful to experience the warmth, kindness, and generous hospitality of our friends from Agesci Gruppo Torremaggiore 2 Agesci Lesina 1 and AGESCI San Paolo di Civitate 1! Thank you for opening your hearts and welcoming Ukrainian children with such care, friendship, and generosity. Your support means more than words can express.

“One World, One Promise” is more than a slogan—it is a value we experienced together. It reminds us that through Scouting we build a world shaped by peace, friendship, understanding, and respect.

We are deeply grateful to the brave defenders of Ukraine, whose courage makes moments like these possible. Because of them, Ukrainian children can discover the world, build friendships across borders, and return home with hope and the belief that kindness is stronger than fear.

We came home with unforgettable memories, lifelong friends, and a renewed belief that Scout friendship truly knows no borders.

A group of Plast Scouts recently returned from an unforgettable international scout camp in Italy, hosted alongside our scout brothers and sisters from Gruppo scout Agesci Brindisi 2

Held from July 16 to 26 in the province of Potenza, this joint camp offered a meaningful platform for youth to connect through core Scouting values: friendship, service, respect for the environment, solidarity, and international brotherhood.

The exchange culminated in a deeply moving farewell evening inside the breathtaking Brindisi Cathedral.

A successful camp is always powered by a strong community! Huge thanks to everyone who made this experience possible:
International Fellowship of Scouts and Rotarians (IFSR) & Rotary Club Brindisi for their essential support.
Cathedral Basilica of the Visitation and St. John the Baptist (led by Don Mimmo Roma) for their warm hospitality.
Local supporters Avioman and Mare128 (who generously provided two relaxing mornings by the sea).
The Inner Wheel "Cristina Cordella", scout leaders, host families, and all volunteers whose dedication gave our girls memories filled with laughter, songs, ceremonies, and lifelong friendships.

From 19 to 31 July, nine young members of Plast joined 18 Scouts from AGESCI for the “Jumanji” Summer Scout Camp in Pranolz, Italy, hosted by Gruppo Scout Sospirolo-Gron 1 🇮🇹🇺🇦⚜️

For nearly two weeks we shared everyday Scout life. Every game, workshop, hike, camp duty, reflection, and campfire was experienced together. By the end of camp, saying goodbye brought tears to everyone’s eyes.

Together we explored the breathtaking Dolomites, hiked through stunning landscapes, and, after camp, our Italian friends even organized a farewell hike to a waterfall and a dinner where Scouts, leaders, and families gathered one last time.

Scouting became our common language. We learned to play Roverino, cook authentic Italian pasta and pizza over an open fire, and sing Italian Scout songs and prayers. In return, we introduced our friends to Ukrainian food!

One principle of the AGESCI Scout Law says that “A Scout is a friend to all and a brother or sister to every other Scout.” During these days, we truly experienced what those words mean. We didn’t feel like guests, we felt like family reunited after a long time apart.

Our Plast Scouts took part in the Sicily Summer Scout Camp in Italy, hosted by Agesci Licata 3

Together with Italian Scouts, we shared moments of prayer and reflection, played outdoor games, gathered around the campfire, sang songs, explored each other’s cultures, built a camp kitchen, learned new languages and traditions, and proudly shared Ukrainian customs with our new Scout friends.

This experience became much more than an international camp. We found a true Scout family, where there the values of Scouting, friendship, mutual support, and solidarity.

For our Ukrainian Scouts, the camp also offered something deeply meaningful: a chance to experience peace, take a break from air raid sirens, recharge emotionally, and return home with unforgettable memories from sunny Sicily.

⚜️ World Scout Scarf Day!

On this day in 1907, a small camp on Brownsea Island changed the world forever.

More than a century later, millions of Scouts continue that journey.

Today, we wear our Scout scarves as a symbol of a promise we carry every day. It reminds us that no matter where we come from, we are united by the same values: friendship, service, courage, and a commitment to leave the world a little better than we found it.

Scouts in Ukraine, wearing our scarf is also a reminder that the values of Scouting: hope, resilience, and service.

This July, a group of Plast Scouts joined the "Mission: Indians" camp in Lithuania, organised by the Plungės skautai

For over two weeks, around 180 young people shared camp life, learned from one another, and built friendships that crossed borders.

The camp was inspired by the traditions of Indigenous tribes, with patrol challenges, hikes, creative workshops, campfires, outdoor adventures, and plenty of teamwork. But what will stay with us the longest isn't a particular activity, it's the people we met along the way.

Scouting has a unique way of bringing young people together. Throughout the camp, Ukrainian and Lithuanian Scouts exchanged traditions, shared experiences, and discovered how much they have in common despite speaking different languages.

Moments like these remind us that Scouting always builds friendships, people learn from each other, and strengthen a movement that reaches far beyond national borders.

A heartfelt thank you to the Plungė Scout Association for hosting this unforgettable experience, and to everyone who helped make it possible: Anastasia, Seržas Staponkus, Šarūnas Montvilas, Žydrūnas, and Kristina Pilitauskas.

Being a junior leader at camp is where Scouts discover what leadership really means.

At Plast camps, not every leader is an adult.

Many activities are planned and run by young Scout leaders, usually aged 16–18, who take responsibility for small teams, lead games and hikes, help younger Scouts solve problems, and keep camp life running smoothly.

It's often their first real leadership experience.

They learn how to make decisions, communicate clearly, support others, and stay calm when plans change.

For younger Scouts, they become role models who are close enough in age to inspire, but experienced enough to guide.

For the junior leaders themselves, camp becomes a safe place to practise responsibility before taking on even bigger roles in their communities.

That's one of the reasons Scout camps are also places where the next generation of leaders grows.
