In Scouting, every step matters. And one of the most important is the Promise.

In Plast, it begins with the youngest members 🌱

The Cub Scout Promise is the first conscious “I want to be part of the community.” It is about trust: in oneself, in the patrol, and in the leader. It is about the first simple yet deeply honest values: helping others, being a good friend, and discovering the world.

Later, in the Division of scouts, comes the moment of the Plast Oath 🔥

This is already a conscious choice. A choice to live by principles that don’t change with circumstances: to be faithful to God and Ukraine, help others, live according to the scout law. It becomes a lifelong compass.

Plast Oath shares the same roots with the Scout Promise, taken by millions of Scouts around the world. There are different countries, but one idea: to educate responsible, honest, and active individuals.

In Plast, these moments are milestones prepared for, deeply experienced, and remembered for a lifetime ❤️‍🔥

True Scouting begins with a word you are ready to keep ☘️

Today, Plast celebrates its 114th anniversary — and the best gift for us is helping Ukrainian children take part in camps ❤️‍🩹

Camp is what keeps a child in Plast.

Our organizational experience shows that children who do not attend camps are much more likely to drop out.

Camp is the culmination of weekly efforts — something a child prepares for all year during meetings. Without this final point, all the previous work loses its meaning.

🔍 Who will receive the scholarships?

• Children of fallen defenders of Ukraine
• Children waiting for their parents to return from the front line
• Children with internally displaced person (IDP) status
• Scouts from large and low-income families
• Children living in frontline areas

How can you help?

Make a donation on the website 👉🏻 https://plast.org.ua/donate/

Your contribution is a “ticket to a journey” for a child who has been waiting for it.
Every donation is a step that brings a child from loneliness at home to singing by the scout campfire ❤️

Today Plast celebrates its 114th anniversary 😍
We are proud that throughout these years we have continued to grow, to uphold scouting values, and to educate young people.

During the war, Plast has become a particularly important organization for Ukraine. We contribute to safeguarding our country’s independence by developing responsible and active young citizens.

We are glad that scouting plays such an important role today, and we will continue to grow ourselves and to support the growth of others in the future 💚

The Plast Oath continues to serve as a moral compass for everyone who chooses the path of Ukrainian scouting. From its earliest formulations in the early 20th century to the present-day version, its core meaning has remained unchanged: loyalty to God and Ukraine, helping others, and living by the Scout Law.

Times, circumstances, and wording have changed, but the values have always remained the same 💚⚜️

What was it like in the beginning? 📜

The first Plast members took an oath based on the global scouting model developed by Baden-Powell. It focused on duty, honor, and living according to the Scout Law.

🤔 Where did “God” in the Oath come from?

Interestingly, the now-familiar wording “to be faithful to God and Ukraine” did not appear right away. It became established much later—on the eve of the Second World War, when Plast was developing in emigration.

It was Plast members in the diaspora who introduced a clearer emphasis on faithfulness to God, shaping the text of the Oath into the form we know today.

The Plast Oath is a living document. It has evolved together with Plast’s history, yet its essence remains the same: service, responsibility, and the conscious choice to live by scouting values.

When scouts talk about a Personal Progressive Scheme, it often sounds quite structured — stages, badges, steps forward.

In Plast, we have something very similar. In Ukraine we call it proba. It is a clearly defined stage in the educational programme.

Each one includes a set of “requirements”— knowledge, skills, and practical tasks — adapted to a specific age group.
These requirements are written in advance and outline what a scout needs to learn and demonstrate.

Scouts complete them step by step. Finishing one proba means:

– they have met all the requirements for that stage
– they have demonstrated their skills in real-life situations
– they are ready to move to the next level

Each completed proba gives a higher scout rank, which is recognized with a badge on the uniform 🤩

It’s all about learning by doing, just like in any WOSM-aligned programme.

And just like the SPICES framework, this growth is holistic:
💛 character
🧠 intellectual
🤝 social
🏃 physical
🌱 emotional & spiritual

What makes it meaningful is not just completing requirements, but reflecting on the journey and becoming more active, aware, and responsible along the way.

This is how Plast implements the Personal Progressive Scheme: a structured, step-by-step system that supports holistic development through clearly defined stages.

1. Plast is one of the first scouting organizations in the world where both boys and girls could be members on equal terms from the very beginning.
2. Plast members who were born and live in the diaspora still identify themselves as Ukrainians!
3. An organization with no age restrictions — a member can be as young as a 2-year-old child or as old as a 70-year-old man ❤️

Plast was founded on the basis of British scouting, adapted to Ukrainian realities.

Plast did not “become scouting later.”
It was built on the same foundation from the very beginning.

In the early 20th century, a new approach to youth development emerged — Baden-Powell’s scouting. Its ideas quickly reached Ukraine.

So what did Plast’s founders do?
They didn’t invent something parallel.

They built on scouting:

📘 “Scouting for Boys” was read and translated by Oleksandr Tysovskyi (co-founder of Plast)
⚙️ they adopted the method — learning by doing, the patrol system, life in nature, service
🌱 and combined it with Ukrainian history, culture, and tradition

That’s how Plast was founded in 1912 —
a Ukrainian form of the same global scouting movement 💚

Did you know that in Plast scouting doesn’t end in youth? It evolves.

Plast offers a unique system of training for adult volunteers, designed to empower people who want to make a real impact in their communities and beyond.

💡 What makes Plast adult training special?
In scouting adults are mentors, educators, and changemakers. Through structured training programs, volunteers gain the skills needed to:
• lead scout groups
• organize camps and international events
• mentor young people
• manage teams and projects

🧭 Learning by doing — the Plast way
Plast trainings combine:
• practical scouting skills (outdoor survival, safety, teamwork)
• educational methods for working with youth
• leadership and project management
• community building and values-based education

🌱 A lifelong scouting journey
What makes Plast truly unique is that there is no age limit — adults can join at any stage of life and grow within the movement.
From young adults (18+) to senior scout members, everyone contributes to building a strong global scouting community rooted in shared values, leadership, and service.

✨It matters
In a rapidly changing world, investing in adult education means investing in the next generation. Through these trainings, Plast ensures that young people are guided by capable, inspired, and well-prepared leaders.

At Vienna’s Central Cemetery lies Lieutenant Colonel of the Army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, Severyn Ivanovych — a native of Bukovyna, a participant in Ukraine’s struggle for independence, who spent his final years in exile.

His story reflects that of an entire generation of Ukrainians who were forced to leave their homeland, but never abandoned their fight. His sons continued this path within the ranks of the OUN and the UPA.

Over the years, the grave was left without proper care.
After 2016, it faced a real threat of disappearance — due to unpaid lease fees and neglect, such burial sites in Europe can be removed.

In 2021, Ukrainian communities in Vienna began to speak publicly about this issue.
That was when Plast members in Austria took responsibility for preserving this place of memory.

As part of the “Save a Hero’s Grave” project, they:
— located the grave
— restored and cleaned the burial site
— repaired the monument
— took over the lease payments, effectively saving it from disappearance

Our Plast members are truly incredible! We are proud of them and deeply grateful for their dedication and effort! 💚⚜️

Being a scout in Ukraine today is not only about camps and traditions as it was in past.
And now it’s about living scouting values in a completely new reality.

Here’s how Ukrainian scouts serve their communities right now:

1. Learning by doing — in real life
Scouting has always been about practical skills. Today, Ukrainian scouts apply them daily: first aid, navigation, crisis response, teamwork. What used to be training has become real-life action.

2. Leadership in small actions
Scouts don’t wait for big roles to lead. They take initiative in their neighborhoods — organizing help, supporting local needs, and bringing people together when it matters most.

3. Creating continuity through scouting
Meetings, camps, and traditions continue! Sometimes in shelters or sometimes online. Scouting gives young people a sense of stability and belonging.

4. Serving as part of a global movement
Ukrainian scouts stay connected with the global scouting community, sharing their experience and reminding the world what it means to serve in difficult times. Thank you, dear friends, for supporting and staying in touch.

5. Living the scout promise every day
Now helping others is a daily choice. Through volunteering, community support, and care for others, scouts embody what scouting truly stands for.

In Ukraine today, scouting is not paused.
It evolves, adapts, and continues to grow — because its core is people.

We serve. Be prepared! ⚜️
