러시아는 우크라이나와의 전쟁에서 이미 130만 명이 넘는 사상자를 냈다. 정상적인 국가라면 이러한 수치는 정치적 충격이자 상황을 재검토해야 할 이유가 될 것이다. 그러나 러시아는 그렇지 않다. 크렘린에게는 어떤 규모의 인명 피해도 한계로 작용하지 않는 듯하며, 인간의 생명을 계속 경시하고 있다.
이러한 이유로 세계는 러시아가 스스로 전쟁을 멈추기를 기다릴 수 없다. 러시아는 전쟁을 멈추도록 강제해야 한다. 강력하고 단합된 국제적 행동, 즉 정치적, 군사적, 경제적 조치만이 러시아의 행보를 바꿀 수 있다. 전면전이 시작된 이후 4년이 넘는 기간 동안 러시아는 그 어떤 전략적 목표도 달성하지 못했다. 이제 러시아의 침략 행위를 중단하도록 압력을 강화해야 할 때다.
Russia’s losses in its war against Ukraine have already exceeded 1.3 million killed and wounded. For any normal country, such figures would be a political shock and a reason to reassess. But not for Russia. No level of casualties seems to act as a limit for the Kremlin, which continues to disregard human life.
This is why the world cannot wait for Russia to stop on its own. It must be forced to stop. Only strong, united international actions – political, military, and economic – can change its course. Over more than four years of its full-scale war, Russia has failed to achieve any of its strategic objectives. It is time to increase pressure on Russia to stop its aggression.
