The Ukrainian Connoisseur Club was founded in 2001 as the first truly independent and transparent organization whose main aim is to rate the quality of Kyiv’s leading restaurants. The restaurants whose chefs, sommeliers, waiters and waitresses and creative approach can best deliver a truly all round exquisite dining experience. Members of TUCC are of more than 14 different nationalities from the b
usiness, diplomatic, government and cultural community of Kyiv who have considerable experience by the nature of their careers of wining and dining around leading restaurants all over the world and are therefore truly competent to rank restaurants in Kyiv. And nowadays in Kyiv the diversity of cuisine and the creative skills of the young talented chefs make dining out an exciting and varied as in any major city. And the restaurants sommeliers have proved to be well versed in the variety of wines from around the world and have shown true ability in matching these with the creative art of the chefs. At regular dinners the members are required to fill in a questionnaire on every aspect of the dining experience; from initial reception, the food, wine and service to the final cup of coffee or so. On each aspect scores are given out of 5 and the composite score from a compilation of questionnaire determine the restaurant star status like fine cognac. Less than 4 points no acceptance, 4.0 to 4.2– one star, 4.3 – 4.6 – three stars, 4.7 or more – five stars. The star rating is valid for approximately 2 years when the restaurant should apply for and hold a new TUCC event or lose the right to feature the TUCC stars.
