On June 10, Gothenburg hosted a major experience-sharing event between Ukrainian military medics and the Swedish healthcare system.
More than 300 Västra Götaland Region professionals gathered with 100 Repower participants to discuss wartime medicine, healthcare resilience, and Europe’s future.
The day started with an overview of Ukraine’s history and operating a healthcare system under wartime conditions.
Ukrainian military medics from the Defence Forces and National Police shared lessons on battlefield care, evacuation, stabilization points, and hospital treatment.
Swedish colleagues heard realities textbooks cannot cover, focusing on practical solutions born from saving lives under fire.
The second half featured a panel discussion on crisis preparedness, evacuation systems, and the human dimension of wartime healthcare.
We also discussed Sweden’s support through clinical exchanges and treating service members. Grateful to Martin Paulsson for his contribution.
We sincerely thank the Västra Götaland Region for its long-standing support and investment in meaningful professional dialogue.
Special thanks to Jonas Claesson for his strategic leadership and belief in long-term cooperation between Ukraine and Sweden’s healthcare.
We also thank Carina Örgård for her consistent support and for championing initiatives that strengthen cooperation between our countries.
We are grateful to Stellan Ahlström, whose closing reflections highlighted cooperation, mutual learning, and preparedness in an uncertain world.
Heartfelt thanks to the Sahlgrenska University Hospital team. We are especially grateful to Dr. Jonas Zimmerman, a great friend of Repower who knows Ukraine’s realities firsthand from the front lines. Thanks to his initiative, this cooperation reached a new level.
We thank all organizers, moderators, volunteers, and participants — including Viktor, Maria, Sara, Anders and Cecilia. This partnership is built by people with big hearts.
It is deeply meaningful to see Repower connecting professionals from Ukraine and Sweden to learn and address today’s challenges.
This is how we learn from one another and grow stronger together!
