✨BEST from the WEST ✨

This year WEST had quite a few exciting collaborations. Theatre Clubs, 2 international festivals, workshops and shows, cultural exchanges, stage readings, AND one performance in the works! 👀

We loved every minute of it! ❤

But, traditionally, we need to choose the best. During the meeting we took a final vote to determine the winners!

🥉3rd place - Theatre Clubs: monthly online meetings for theatre-makers around the world. This year we talked about such important issues as: international collaborations, funding, working with playwrights, q***r theatre, theatre at risk and more! We cherish those moments of personal connection and hope that next year the Theatre Clubs will go to the new level 🔥

🥈2nd place - Monologues Night: acting competition where playwrights from all around the world submit short monologues to a certain topic, actors choose a monologue and act it in front of the judges and audience. This year we had 2 Monologues Nights in Kyiv, with total of more than 28 monologues performed live. We think that such an exciting format should live on and spread into more countries among WEST participants. If you want to organize Monologues Night in your theatre but need some tips - message us and we will gladly support you in this journey!😎

🥇1st place - Ukraine Fringe: international English-speaking theatre festival, the first Fringe in Ukraine. This year the participation of international theatre-makers was with Poems from Ukraine, where directors staged Ukrainian poetries online with actors in Kyiv. We also had a visit by Thomas Tse with Introduction to Butoh Workshop. Next year Ukraine Fringe will hopefully live on and expand into TWO cities! Applications are now open at page! End of August 2026 - we are waiting for YOU in UKRAINE 🤩

Thank you everyone who supported us this year, took part in discussions, directed, acted, submitted their work, shared WEST news with the world. Let 2026 be the year when we bring MORE projects, art, connections! 😍

2025 is coming to an end, and that means that it is time to choose the BEST initiatives created by WEST Association in 2025!

Let's get together and celebrate the achievements of the passing year and welcome the changes that the upcoming year brings!

Working with the Playwright: Case Study - WEST Theatre Club

Theatre Club - is a series of networking events organized by WEST Association. We invite everyone, who is connected to theatre and doing it in English to join!

This time, we will try a format of “case study” and talk about the specifics of international exchange and collaborations in theatre projects.
Whether you had miscommunication with foreign partners, took part in an international festival in another courntry where everything went wrong, or experienced cultural differences while creating a project together - we are here to hear you out! :)

How will this work?
- each participant has 2 to minutes present their case: any issue they have been dealing with on this particular topic
- all participants choose 2-3 cases to dive deeper into
- together we brainstorm solutions or give advice how to deal with those issues

Let’s support each other because this is what’s WEST all about ✨

Casting for «The Kafka Project» of ProEnglish Theatre ✨

We are looking for 4 female or genderq***r actors, 20-35 y.o.
The experience in physical theatre will be a plus 🔥

«The Kafka Project» is a new production of ProEnglish Theatre, supported by WEST Association and Asylum Theatre (USA). Inspired by a classic Kafka story, this show shares a journey of finding one’s self through the greatest trial - the life we’re forced to live.

The rehearsals start in the beginning of December: twice a week, Tue&Fri first part of the day.
Premiere is around end of April.

Who are those cool people, you ask? 😉

They are the production team of the secret "Kafka Project" by WEST Association 👀

With the support of Sarah O'Connell from Asylum Theatre (Las Vegas, USA), James Robertson (London, UK) and Vero Streltsova with Anastasiia Karpenko (Kyiv, Ukraine) will develop a new production for ProEnglish Theatre of Ukraine, inspired by one of famous Kafka's stories. Which one? Wait and see! 👀

We are forever grateful to Asylum Theatre for giving ProEnglish Theatre the opportunity to keep making art and work together on this international project.

Sarah says: "The Asylum Theatre is a haven for artists, their voices, and the people who need to connect to them. We are proud to create culture with our WEST partners; it is the creative legacy and reflection of our humanity. The Theatre will not be silenced."

Whether you are a playwright having trouble communicating with the director, or a director who doesn’t share the same artistic vision as the playwright, or even an actor who is caught between the fires - we welcome your story 😉
