Creative Education Foundation Zanzibar

Creative Education Foundation Zanzibar Free education, nutrition & medical care to orphans and children living in poverty to change their life paths & help them transcend barriers to success

Providing access to quality education for girls, orphans, and children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Our philosophy is to blend the local school curriculum with the principles of Rudolf Steiner to raise young people who are socially and environmentally responsible agents of change. Access to quality education is important on this developing little island where local schools are over crowded and

under resourced, leaving not much time for teachers to provide experiential learning opportunities. Our curriculum focuses on fostering not only academics, but creativity, critical thinking and problem solving skills - the skills needed to become employable and transform other lives in return. We think this is just what this little developing island of Zanzibar needs more of.

If a simple meal of rice and a little piece of meat can you imagine the happiness they feel to also receive porridge for breakfast, omelette for snack and fruit to go home?

Isthis strange to you? Literacy in Waldorf Schools begins with learning Capital letters. Stories are told with strong imagery and repetition of the letter sound being taught. Using sentences like ā€œThe mother meandered up the mountainā€ where the ā€˜M’ will be drawn into a picture of a mountain range on the board. This gives a strong emotional experience with the letter from the story. Children remember their letters very easily this way.

Yesterday came and checked current students, past students, and some of our Mamas and prescribed and supplied 80 (!!!) pairs of glasses and identified a further 16 students needing specialist prescriptions.

Thank you for volunteering and supporting us and Zanzibar’s community.

Kids need to be able to see as one of the first steps to learning and children from underserved communities rarely see an eye doctor.

Swimming has transitioned from hard work and nerves to confidence and fun for our latest cohort of teen girls in the pool on Saturdays.

We couldn’t offer this program without the help of The Phillips Foundation as we need to keep our tuition fees low for donor sponsorship. Extras like this are expensive programs to run.

Buses, snacks, pool entry fees. It all adds up. Every week at the moment we are able to get 70 kids into our program, and so far we have reached 120 children and youth in our community.

It’s about water safety, self confidence and wellbeing for life šŸ’«
