The Panje Project The Panje Project is a Zanzibari NGO working with the local community in Nungwi to improve quality of life. What is The Panje Project?

The Panje Project (TPP) was established in 2011 to support the educational development of youth in the local Nungwi Village in Zanzibar. The work began after discovering many of the locals were overlooked for work in the nearby hotels and restaurants. The need for labor in the area has risen due to the rise in tourism however many businesses find it difficult to hire local labor due to low educati

onal levels. A high number of locals are poorly educated and lack basic English language skills, leading to majority of hotels importing labor from mainland Tanzania and nearby countries.

On 25th July, It was a pleasure to have a participants from the various places and Organizations for joined with us to commemorate World Drowning Prevention day 2026.

The event brought people together to enhance the awareness on Drowning Prevention, there were different activities were performed during the event includes Ngalawa race, community drama performance, local song performed by children, and lifesaving performance.

Knowledge is the most powerful lifesaving tool. Through community engagement and water safety training fishers are strenghtening their skills, protecting one another and creating a culture of safety on and around the water.

The visit saw how learners are gaining essential swimming and aquatic survival skills that build confidence, promote safe behaviours around water, and contribute to drowning prevention in our communities.
