The Panje Project

The Panje Project The Panje Project is a Zanzibari NGO working with the local community in Nungwi to improve quality of life. What is The Panje Project?

The Panje Project (TPP) was established in 2011 to support the educational development of youth in the local Nungwi Village in Zanzibar. The work began after discovering many of the locals were overlooked for work in the nearby hotels and restaurants. The need for labor in the area has risen due to the rise in tourism however many businesses find it difficult to hire local labor due to low educati

onal levels. A high number of locals are poorly educated and lack basic English language skills, leading to majority of hotels importing labor from mainland Tanzania and nearby countries.

The Panje Project, in collaboration with the Department of Sports, continued to deliver comprehensive water safety and rescue training to primary school teachers in Magharibi B District, specifically for teachers of Art and Creativity subjects. The training aimed to equip teachers with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to educate children on staying safe around water.

Teachers are pillars of our communities. By empowering them with life-saving knowledge, we are shaping a generation that is aware, cautious, and prepared to prevent water-related accidents.

Through this collaboration, we continue to strengthen prevention, build a culture of safety, and promote shared responsibility. This is more than training it is a meaningful step towards a safer Zanzibar.

Holidays shouldn’t mean higher drowning risks. They should mean learning, joy, and safety.
We Proud of every child, parent, trainer, and partner who made this possible. This project is funded by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution .
