🌱✨ Eco-Schools is not an “extra burden” but a pathway to empower students.
This weekend, teachers and NVHO members aligned Eco-Schools with the curriculum, adopting the Steiner Waldorf Sustainability Curriculum.

Through posters, group discussions, and integration matrices, we explored how biodiversity, school grounds, and climate change become living lessons.

Together, we transform learning into action—nurturing a generation of eco-leaders who live conservation every day. 🌍📚💚

Eco-School Beginning: Guiding Green Change, Together 🌱✨
Teachers, Shehia leaders, government environmental professionals, and community members reviewed Micheweni District’s environment using Google Earth Engine and raster overlays. The fruitful outcomes paved the way for NVHO’s adopted Eco-Schools Project, supported by OIKOS, with participants pledging to lead from the front—acknowledging our environment is being destroyed day by day and committing to take action before nature pays back with interest. 🌍🌿

NVHO is at the front row supporting national policy—with one purpose: one stove, one family, one forest at a time.
While taking the small steps to promote, influence, and implement Tanzania’s National Clean Cooking Strategy 2024–2034, this is the first step—especially in village areas. In January 2026, 100 improved cooking stoves have been completed and already in use in households across Tondooni and Makangale Shehia—bringing the total to over 250. These stoves cut firewood use by 50%, allow families to cook two dishes on the same firewood, ease women’s burden of fetching firewood, and bring cleaner cooking with less emissions.

Over two vibrant days, NVHO saw artists, environmentalists, and historians among community children.

Day 1: They upcycled plastic waste into colorful pencil holders and plant pots—proving that creativity can transform pollution into possibility.

Day 2: Our journey to Chwaka Tumbe opened a doorway into the past, where young minds explored and uncovered the stories of those who walked before us, turning heritage into something they could see, question, and carry forward.

NVHO is committed to raising 8,000 seedlings of hardwood, fruit, medicinal, spice, and shade species through the Eco-School Program, which will be planted in the school grounds and rehabilitate open spaces together with students and communities in Micheweni District, Pemba.

Pemba's Next Generation: Thinking About the Future
In the backdrop of present-day global socio-economic development, students in Pemba participated in confronting a vital question: will forests thrive or vanish in 2050?
Through NetLogo simulations, Resource Pool Games, and environmental storytelling,
they explore the crossroads of sustainability and development—thinking deeply about the future they want to shape.
Guided by SDG 15 – Life on Land, the choices we make today echo across generations. 🌍🌱

🌿 NVHO finds great relief in witnessing the progress of last year’s mangrove restoration efforts. Through careful monitoring and evaluation, we see the seeds of change taking root. We’re not there yet—but we remain committed to protecting our coastal heritage. As we move forward, we’re identifying new areas for restoration to reduce saltwater inundation threatening villages around Ngezi Forest.
