- We would like to thank Edelweiss Coffee Estate Ltd. The Vohora family Neel and Kavita Vohora for extending our Karatu / Ngorongoro to the western end of the reserve boundary line. This will help us a great deal in closing the line of active elephant management all along the southern NCA farm boundary stretching from Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge to the Oldeani farms to the west.

After some ATTA - African Travel & Tourism Association work was done where many words were spoken about “being too close for comfort” do we still see a relentless intrusion of personal space by guides!

Ok, we go again!!

Rhotia Valley Lodge, in partnership with Conservation Through Tourism Ltd. (via its Kazi Ya Tembo initiative), the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), and Kwekerij Lankhaar, has launched a groundbreaking elephant conservation program in the Ngorongoro region of Tanzania. The initiative uses thermal drone technology to non-invasively guide elephants away from farmland, reducing human-elephant conflict (HEC), protecting crops, and maintaining vital wildlife corridors.

Key Partners & Roles:
• Kazi Ya Tembo: Provides drone technology, training, and HEC expertise.
• NCAA: Supplies rangers and operational support.
• Rhotia Valley Lodge: Leads fundraising, hardware procurement, and community engagement.
• Kwekerij Lankhaar: Contributes financially to initial drone units.

The program builds on successful HEC mitigation work near Mkomazi National Park and represents a model for scalable conservation that benefits both wildlife and rural communities. Rhotia Valley Lodge emphasizes its deepening conservation commitment alongside its social initiatives like the local children’s home.
