On 31st March 2026, ESTL welcomed a visit from the Mo Dewji Foundation team to follow up on the water project they funded and which was implemented by ESTL. Although several wells have been constructed, significant gaps in water access persist, with some community members still traveling over one kilometer to reach water sources—far beyond the limits set by the national water policy.
There is a clear need to upgrade existing hand pumps to more inclusive and user-friendly systems, alongside adopting low-energy technologies such as solar and wind power, which are readily available in the Singida Region. Limited access to water over long distances also contributes to increased risks of violence against women and girls and negatively affects holistic child development.
The visit further provided new insights from Prof. Anna Mdee, who emphasized the importance of investing in groundwater recharge through rainwater harvesting—an innovative and sustainable approach that should be adopted to strengthen long term water security.
