PREAMBLE ABOUT THE CREATION OF ADEI ORGANIZATION
Advancing the Dignity of Elderly Initiatives - ADEI is a community - based organization founded officially on Saturday, November 5th, 2022. This organization is made by a group of Samaritans men and women who devoted their lives to help older persons and started volunteering in Magu District, Mwanza region in Tanzania to meet the needs of elderly a
nd advocate for their rights since January 2022 in an informal setting after being touched by various acts of discrimination and life hardships facing them in Magu District. Aging population in the World is growing very rapidly and that there is very weak infrastructure put in place to address their concerns and needs. Nowadays, the traditional care systems in which families, kin and neighborhoods took care of the elderly is increasingly getting strained, while formal care for the same group is not yet sustainable in Magu district where we operate. There is therefore a significant care gap left by the consequences of development and the so-called modernization as many families are adopting a form of life more impactful to nuclear families than extended families. These positive developments therefore need to be backed up with long term and concrete plans on how to cover the care gaps left for vulnerable categories of people especially the elderly. In this perspective and many other reasons and incidents witnessed affecting older persons made these compassionate men and women to decide to unite their resources and skills and officially create this organization and work for a common goal as one and not individually.
