Our Parenting Care program continues to bring us together with children who have disabilities under the age of five for therapeutic exercise sessions. We are happy to see the attending children improving day by day in their physical development.

Parents and caregivers continue to benefit from the knowledge, guidance, and training received from our therapists at OSNET, which builds their capacity and confidence to carry out these exercises with their children at home.

OSNET facilitated another impactful training session for 5 teachers at Kwibara B Primary School, located in Musoma DC. The training focused on practical strategies for supporting children with intellectual disabilities, autism, and non-verbal communication needs.

During the session, we were honored to be hosted by the Special Needs Education Officer of Musoma DC, Esther Kakusima, who joined us to observe the activities and see how these important inclusive education practices are being shared in the classroom.

Our sincere thanks go to the teachers for their active participation, and to the Education Officer for her valuable presence and continued support in making a brighter future for all pupils.

In today's session of our Parenting Care program for children with disabilities under the age of 5, we empowered parents and caregivers with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to use the Spiky Therapy Ball to stimulate their children's muscles. Rolling this spiky ball over tight muscle groups (like the calves, back, thighs, or arms) helps release the muscle fibers, making it less painful when gently stretching the child's limbs.

Following the session, we gathered together as our therapists reminded families of the importance of consistently practicing these exercises at home because it is what helps children build the strength and flexibility needed for their physical development.

We were blessed with a very special guest Jennifer (Mama Mrembo), a former parent of our program. She visited to share a testimony about the progress of her child, Mrembo. Her journey has brought renewed hope, strength, and comfort to parents and caregivers, proving that positive change is possible through patience and consistent exercise.

Last week, OSNET and other 200 Masana wa Afrika grantees participated in the Early Childhood Development Regional Conference held in Johannesburg.

Over three days of learning, sharing, and connection, one message stood out: the most powerful intervention in a child's life is a supported, confident adult who is close to them.

From newborn survival and responsive caregiving to child safeguarding and trauma-informed practice, our conversations reinforced the critical role that community-based organisations play in helping children thrive. They are often the closest source of support for children and families, turning care, knowledge, and resources into real impact.

We returned with stronger networks, practical tools, and a renewed commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of who they are or where they live, has access to quality early childhood services.

Together, we are building a stronger future for Africa's children.

OSNET facilitated an impactful training session for 8 teachers at Nyarigamba Primary School in Musoma, focusing on supporting children with intellectual disabilities, autism, and non-verbal communication needs.

Led by our volunteer Bernard Bielefeldt, the training was structured around two vital topics:

1️⃣ Managing Challenging Behaviour, the goals were to reactivate awareness about the complexity of classroom interactions and share real experiences on how to handle challenging behaviours.

2️⃣ Supporting Non-Speaking Pupils, the session focused on reactivating awareness that communication is a fundamental human right and trying out basic approaches to Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

We are incredibly thrilled by the teachers' vivid interest in further educational exchanges, and we want to thank them for their active participation and dedication to making a brighter future for all pupils

Through our Parenting Care Program, a consistent routine of therapeutic exercises provided a continuity of development for children with disabilities under the age of five, allowing them to fully benefit from these rehabilitation sessions. 🌱

Our therapists focused on providing individualized physical therapy and muscle-strengthening exercises to improve each child's posture, while parents and caregivers were equipped with knowledge and confidence, aiming to ensure they continue these exercises at home that will bring positive outcomes and a brighter tomorrow for the children. πŸ’ͺ

Our therapists provided physical therapy and muscle-strengthening exercises that match each child’s specific physical needs, while guiding children in stimulating their cognitive abilities by focusing on building concentration and understanding instructions through picture cards and puzzle games. 🧠πŸ’ͺ

Parents and caregivers actively participated by helping their children with mobility stretches and supported walking exercises.
