y Empowerment Initiative (JIKITE) is a registered Tanzanian NGO based in Moshi, Kilimanjaro. Founded in 2007 as the Africa Village Project (AVP) and re-registered in 2024 as JIKITE, we exist to help rural families move from dependency to dignity through self-driven development. The name JIKITE captures our belief in initiative — to be self-aware, proactive, and committed to community wellbeing.

To empower rural communities to take charge of their own development by strengthening livelihoods, health, education, and local governance through inclusive, transparent, and practical action.
🌱 Key Programs & Focus Areas
• Livelihoods & Small Business: group savings, micro-grants, business coaching, and market linkages.
• Agriculture & Water: climate-smart farming, tree-planting, and rehabilitation of community water points.
• Education & Skills: school improvement, life-skills and menstrual-health clubs for girls.
• Community Health: outreach on nutrition, HIV, maternal health, sanitation, and vaccination.
• Women’s Empowerment & Governance: leadership training, group record-keeping, and inclusive decision-making.
• Environment & Resilience: protecting springs, promoting zero-grazing, and waste-management awareness.
🌍 Location & Community Served
Our work began in Okaseni Village and now extends across Kilimanjaro and neighboring regions, supporting women, youth, and vulnerable households through partnerships with local leaders and district authorities.
