ave. Community based organizations (CBOs) as well as other NGOs and institutions are targeted as entry points and also as partners. Our specific objectives include:
- To identify communities where FGM is still practiced

- To design and carry out special sensitization and awareness raising programs with the participation of the relevant communities

- to empower communities to design strategies that will enable them to eradicate the practice in their areas appropriate to their particular circumstances

- To seek to strengthen cooperation among the various anti-FGM activists in information exchange and the sharing of resources

- To use experiences and lessons learned from the campaign towards the eradication of other harmful traditions against women

Long distances to school remain a major challenge that contributes to many girls dropping out and failing to achieve their dreams. In response to this challenge, NAFGEM Tanzania, in collaboration with the Rotary Club Paderborn‑Kaiserpfalz 🤝, initiated a project to support girls by providing bicycles 🚲 in order to reduce the burden of long travel distances to school.
The Executive Director of Simanjiro District Council, Hon. Glacian Makota, officially handed over the bicycles 🚲 on behalf of the Simanjiro District Council 🇹🇿. During the handover, he commended NAFGEM Tanzania for its collaboration with the government in ensuring that girls have equal access to education 📚🎓. He also expressed his gratitude to the donors and encouraged continued support, noting that transportation challenges for students remain a significant issue in the district 🚧.
The bicycle distribution event was also attended by the District Secondary Education Officer, Ms. Mwamvita Kilonzo 👩‍🏫, the District Primary Education Officer, Mr. Darus Limandola 👨‍🏫, as well as Ward Executive Officers from Laangai and Orkesumet wards 📍.

Sustainability is at the heart of the WATOTO IMARA Project. To ensure long-term child protection within the school environment, we recently conducted comprehensive training sessions at Lerai Primary School and Elerai Primary School.
By providing school clubs with both specialized training and educational materials, we are fostering a culture of vigilance and support. These clubs serve as vital peer-to-peer networks where children learn to navigate their rights and seek help when needed.
Together, we are making "Strong Children" (Watoto Imara) a reality across the Siha District.

The Watoto Imara Project continues to support schools by distributing materials and conducting training for school children’s clubs aimed at preventing and addressing violence against children.

Yesterday, we had the honor of receiving a visit from the Executive Director of Simanjiro District Council, Hon. Glacian Makota, who was accompanied by the District Secondary Education Officer, Ms. Mwamvita Kilonzo, the District Primary Education Officer, Mr. Darus Limandola, and the Ward Executive Officer of Donyongijape, Ms. Mary Jackson Sendui. The officials visited Orkirung'urung' Primary School, where they officiated the formal opening of the Watoto Imara Club classroom.

During the event, the Head Teacher of Orkirung'urung' Primary School gave a brief overview of the Watoto Imara classroom and highlighted several challenges affecting girls in the school, particularly teenage pregnancies, truancy, and other barriers to education.

The establishment of these classrooms is expected to strengthen practical learning, provide a safe space for discussion, and enhance efforts to protect children from violence while promoting their wellbeing and education.

Today, NAFGEM continued providing education on child rights and protection. particularly in efforts to eliminate female ge***al mutilation (FGM), child marriage, and teenage pregnancy through the Watoto Imara Project.

The project is being implemented in three councils: Hai and Siha in Kilimanjaro Region, and Simanjiro in Manyara Region. It aims to empower children with knowledge and life skills on Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), protection, and safety, while also supporting Children Living with HIV (CLHIV) who face challenges related to high viral load (HVL).

One of the key activities of the project is the establishment of Safe Spaces—dedicated rooms that provide children with a safe environment to share important information, express their concerns, and seek support.

In Simanjiro District, the project has distributed various items to schools including Londorkes, Orkirung’urung, and Donyongijape. These include TV sets, cabinets, sanitary pads, tables, benches, and educational materials carrying key project messages to support children’s learning, wellbeing, and protection.

We extend our sincere thanks to our project donor, Crossroads International, for their valuable support in making these initiatives possible.

Together, we continue working to protect children’s rights and build safer communities for every child.💙

Happy International Women’s Day from NAFGEM Tanzania!
Today, we celebrate the excellence of African women. From our revered elders who carry our history to the young trailblazers in science, law, and engineering—every woman’s potential is a pillar of our nation’s progress.

At NAFGEM Tanzania, we believe that when a girl is protected from harmful traditions like FGM and child marriage, she is given the freedom to choose her own path. Whether she wears a lab coat, a judicial robe, or a hard hat, her contribution is vital to a thriving society.

Let’s continue to break the barriers of Gender-Based Violence and build a future where every woman can lead, innovate, and thrive with dignity.

Happy Farmers' Day! Salute to the backbone of our nation. Your hard work feeds us all!
