Simbas Footprints Foundation Simbas Footprints has a Community-Led approach to development. This is why in 2017 Simbas began shifting its leadership back to our local team.

Simbas Footprints Foundation is a registered Tanzania NGO serving over 4000 children and women in Kilimanjaro through education and economic empowerment initiatives. Simbas Footprints Foundation recognizes that locally-led organizations are more sustainable because the solution is driven by the members of the community that the organization is trying to serve. Now, idea’s for expansion, programming and solutions come from the ground with the full force and support of the board to provide resources, professional development, and funding to ensure the success of these programs.

Last week, women at Simbas Footprints Foundation joined a hands-on training led by our Youth Program Coordinator, Richard, learning how to cut and transform used glass bottles into drinking glasses and decorative pieces.

It was wonderful to see their creativity at work—giving discarded bottles a new purpose while building practical skills that could open doors to income opportunities.

Through training like this, we continue to support women and youth to learn, build confidence, and explore new ways to earn a living while caring for our environment.

Our free after-school arts and crafts program gives children space to imagine, explore, and create opportunities that many don’t have at school or at home.

Led by our Program Coordinator, Dina, these weekly sessions bring together 20–25 children from our community to learn new skills and bring their ideas to life. Along the way, they practise patience, problem-solving, teamwork, and expressing themselves with every creation giving them something to feel proud of. 💛

Sometimes, simple materials and a little encouragement can open up a whole world of possibilities.

Last week, we celebrated the opening of two computer labs at Mawenzi Secondary School and Jamhuri Primary School in Kilimanjaro—bringing our partnership with STAWI Technology to seven computer labs across public schools!

We believe access to digital learning is an important part of quality education. These spaces give students opportunities to build digital skills, explore ideas and develop confidence for the future.

This work supports Tanzania’s National Digital Education Strategy 2024/25–2029/30, which promotes technology in education to improve learning and reduce the digital divide.

Thank you, Stawi Technology, for this incredible partnership and shared commitment to public education. Together, we look forward to establishing two more labs in 2027! 🙌

We were delighted to welcome Melanie Yogamuesli , our partner and supporter, who shared her love of yoga with our staff, children, and women. Her sessions gave us time to stretch, breathe, laugh, and enjoy being together.

Each month, child representatives from the schools we work with come together to share their ideas and learn about leadership, teamwork, collaboration, their rights, and how to stay safe. It is a space to build confidence, make connections, and ensure children’s voices help guide our work.

☀️ A Week of Learning, Connection & Fun at Simbas! 💛

Last week, we held our annual Simbas Summer Camp, bringing together children and young people from across our programs for a full week of learning, creativity, play, and connection.

Throughout the week, the children participated in different activities designed not only to be fun, but also to create opportunities to learn, build friendships, express themselves, work together, and simply enjoy being kids.

One of the things we value most about Summer Camp is the opportunity it gives our team to spend meaningful time with the children and young people we work with. Beyond our regular programs and activities, these moments help us strengthen relationships, listen, laugh together, and continue building the sense of community that is at the heart of Simbas Footprints.

We were especially excited to see so many children showing up and participating throughout the week. Their energy, curiosity, laughter, and enthusiasm made this year’s camp incredibly special. ❤️

A big thank you to our amazing team for making the week possible, and to every child and young person who came and filled our Community Centre with so much life and joy.

We’re excited to continue our partnership with Songambele Initiative , bringing digital marketing training to our community in collaboration with Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) Tanzania (DOT).

What makes this especially meaningful is seeing local leaders and community members actively involved in the learning process. By building skills locally, we help ensure that knowledge doesn’t leave when a training ends—it stays, grows, and continues to benefit others.

From our after-school program to contributing to one of East Africa’s major oil refinery projects — Johnson’s journey is a powerful reminder of what opportunity can do.

Johnson began his journey with Simbas Footprints Foundation as a young participant in our programs. Through educational support and a scholarship opportunity, he pursued vocational skills training in Moshi and Dar es Salaam. Today, he proudly shared with us that he is working on an oil refinery project serving countries across East Africa.

Stories like Johnson’s inspire us and remind us that investing in children and youth creates lasting impact for families, communities, and the future of our nation.
