If youβre planning to visit Tanzania, there is a new requirement you should know about.
As of 1 October 2026, Tanzania has introduced Mandatory Inbound Travel Insurance for foreign visitors entering Mainland Tanzania through airports, land borders and seaports, subject to applicable exemptions.

Validity: Up to 92 days
π‘οΈ Coverage includes: emergency medical assistance, medical evacuation/repatriation and other benefits according to the policy terms.
π Entering both Mainland Tanzania & Zanzibar?
Your first point of entry matters.
If you enter through Mainland Tanzania first, you can subsequently travel to Zanzibar without purchasing another inbound policy, subject to the applicable terms and conditions.
If you enter through Zanzibar first, the applicable Zanzibar inbound insurance rules apply.
β οΈ Important: This mandatory inbound insurance is separate from your normal travel insurance. I still recommend travelling with comprehensive travel insurance that covers your trip and other unexpected situations.
