Our History
The Centre was established in February, 1992 as a non-Governmental Organization registered under the laws of Tanzania.
The founder, Mama Josephine Bakhita was forced to vacate her matrimonial home to enable social freedom for her late multiple disabled son Eric.
Being a Social Worker, Josephine mainly due to her personal efforts and against all odds managed to mobilize fellow parents with intellectual disabled children like her own and thereby established AMANI CENTRE.
Upon her retirement Ms. Bakhita handed over the centre, in 2009, to the Diocese of Morogoro in appreciation for the assistance she received from the local Roman Catholic Church. The Bishop is now the legal holder of the Amani Centre.
