Behind every restored reef is a journey of patience, care, and hope. In our coral nursery, we witness every day how small coral fragments can grow into thriving colonies that become the foundation for new marine life.

What starts as a tiny piece of coral slowly develops into a strong and healthy colony, creating shelter and habitat for countless ocean creatures. Through careful monitoring, maintenance, and the right conditions, we give these corals the best chance to grow.

Coral restoration doesn’t happen overnight, it requires time, dedication, and commitment. But every new branch, every centimeter of growth, and every new visitor to the reef is a reminder that restoration is possible. 💙

Today we are taking you behind the scenes of our coral nursery 🪸🌊, a place where corals get a second chance.

During our deep dives, we collect coral fragments that have the opportunity to recover and continue growing with the right care. These are often corals that have been broken by fishing activities, storms, or are facing challenges such as overgrowing sponges and other threats.

We bring these coral fragments to our nursery, where they first have time to acclimatize to new conditions and water temperatures. After this process, the corals are carefully fragmented and attached to our coral cookies or ropes, where they can continue to grow and develop.

The corals stay in the nursery for a minimum of six months, and sometimes even longer. During this time, we provide the care they need to become stronger and healthier. We regularly clean the nursery and remove algae that could slow down their growth.

Once the corals are strong enough, we plant them back into the ocean on our artificial reef, where they can help restore a healthy and thriving reef ecosystem. 🌱🐠

🌊 We need your help to restore Zanzibar’s coral reefs! 🪸💙

Today we’re launching our very first crowdfunding campaign, and we need your support! Please help us spread the word by sharing this campaign with your friends and family. Every share truly makes a difference.

This is a joint initiative by Under the Wave and Linda Bahari, bringing together science, conservation, and local communities to restore and protect Zanzibar’s coral reefs.

Beneath Zanzibar’s crystal-clear waters lies an extraordinary ecosystem. Although coral reefs cover less than 1% of the ocean floor, they support nearly 25% of all marine life. They protect coastlines, provide food and income for thousands of families, and sustain local fisheries and tourism.

Yet Zanzibar’s reefs remain one of the world’s most overlooked marine ecosystems. While reefs elsewhere receive significant conservation funding, these vital reefs often go unnoticed even though local communities depend on them every single day.

Climate change, coral bleaching, and human pressures are causing these reefs to disappear. Every year we wait, more coral is lost, biodiversity declines, and coastal communities become more vulnerable.

With your support, we can change that. Funds raised will help us build coral nurseries, restore damaged reefs, monitor reef health, and empower local communities to protect their marine environment.

💙 Just €25 restores approximately 1 m² of coral reef.

One square meter creates new habitat for marine life, strengthens natural coastal protection, supports local fisheries, and helps secure the livelihoods of coastal communities.
