This woman is one of the community members participating in the Friends of Usambara Society’s larger landscape restoration programme, carrying tree seedlings over a long distance to reach the planting site. 🌿💪
Her journey represents the important role that local communities play in restoring degraded landscapes across the Usambara Mountains. Through this programme, community members are not only helping to restore forests and biodiversity, but are also benefiting from employment and income-generating opportunities created through tree planting activities.

Through our Trek for Climate Change tour package, Friends of Usambara Society (FoU) welcomes students and tourists, especially from Europe, to experience the beauty of the Usambara Mountains while actively contributing to environmental conservation.

During their visit, our guests joined local community members in planting trees for agroforestry on a community farm. Together, we are promoting sustainable farming practices, restoring degraded landscapes, improving soil health, protecting biodiversity, and supporting communities to build a more resilient future.
