: Practical Learning on Climate-Resilient Agriculture
As part of the ongoing Sustainable Agricultural Land Management (SALM) and Gender Training hosted by Vi Agroforestry, participants today engaged in hands-on field learning in Ilindi Village, Bahi District, Dodoma, gaining practical experience on climate-smart technologies that help farmers adapt to changing climatic conditions while conserving natural resources.

One of the key highlights of the day was learning and practicing farm water harvesting technologies. Using the simple but effective A-frame tool, participants established contour layouts that help reduce soil erosion, slow down runoff, and enhance water infiltration into the soil. Based on these contour lines, participants further constructed:

💧 Half-moon water harvesting structures to capture and retain rainwater around crops.

💧 Zai pits, which improve soil moisture, enhance soil fertility, and increase crop productivity, especially in dry areas.

The practical session also focused on the establishment of nutrition-sensitive home gardens, where participants prepared both:

🌿 Sunken seedbeds, which are ideal for conserving moisture in water-scarce environments.

🌿 Raised seedbeds, which improve drainage and support healthy crop growth.

In addition, participants prepared compost manure, demonstrating how farmers can utilize locally available organic materials to produce affordable and environmentally friendly bio-inputs. This practice contributes to healthier soils, reduced dependence on external inputs, and more sustainable food production systems.

These practical lessons demonstrate that sustainable agricultural transformation begins with empowering farmers with simple, low-cost, and locally adaptable technologies that improve productivity while building resilience to climate change.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Vi Agroforestry for creating this valuable learning opportunity and for its continued commitment to promoting resilient livelihoods and sustainable food systems.

Together, we are nurturing knowledge, restoring landscapes, and cultivating a greener and more prosperous future for farming communities.
