Strengthening Partnerships for Sustainable Water Access. As part of the ongoing implementation of the Mangalali Water Supply Project, our team visited the RUWASA District Office in Iringa to strengthen collaboration and coordination around the project.

During the visit, we had an insightful discussion with the District Manager and the assigned Engineer supervising the Mangalali Water Supply Project, who also continues to provide technical oversight during field implementation.

The engagement provided an opportunity to share project updates, discuss progress and challenges, receive technical guidance, and strengthen coordination to ensure the project is implemented effectively and sustainably.

Afyaplus, we believe that strong partnerships with government authorities and technical stakeholders are essential for delivering sustainable WASH solutions and ensuring communities have reliable access to safe and clean water. 💧

Building Local Capacity for Sustainable Water Services in Mangalali

As implementation of the Mangalali Water Supply Distribution Project continues, Afyaplus recognizes that sustainable water services require more than infrastructure they require strong community ownership and technical capacity.

We conducted a training with the Mangalali Water Committee and village leadership on the technical design of the project, installed equipment, and essential operations and maintenance (O&M) practices. The training equipped participants with knowledge on monitoring system performance, managing daily operations, identifying potential faults, and conducting preventive and corrective maintenance to extend the lifespan of equipment.

For Afyaplus, strengthening local capacity is essential to ensuring that the water system remains functional, reliable, and sustainable, enabling it to serve the community for many years to come.

As the implementation of the Mangalali Water Project continues, our team has been working tirelessly on the ground to bring safe and clean water closer to the community.

During the implementation, we successfully carried out several key activities, including trenching, backfilling, plumbing, laying water pipes, and installing a 7.5 HP water pump in the borehole, together with its electrical wiring. 💧

What stood out throughout the work was the team’s energy, commitment, and determination. Day after day, everyone remained focused and willing to go the extra mile to achieve one shared goal: ensuring that the people of Mangalali Village have reliable access to safe and clean water.

Every trench dug, every pipe laid, and every connection made brings us one step closer to a healthier and more resilient Mangalali.

The work continues, and the vision is becoming a reality one step, one pipe, and one drop at a time.

Yesterday we conducted an awareness and health education session at Lukwambe Primary School, focusing on proper hygiene practices, particularly the importance of regular and correct handwashing.

Through engaging discussions and practical demonstrations, we helped learners understand when and how to wash their hands properly, as well as how good hygiene practices can prevent diseases and keep them healthy.

Small habits can make a big difference. By empowering children with the right knowledge today, we are building a healthier and more hygienic community for tomorrow. 💙

As implementation of the Mangalali Water Supply Project continues, our team visited the project’s key water infrastructure the borehole and the 40,000-litre water storage tank that will play a vital role in distributing safe and reliable water to households and public areas across the community.

The borehole is at the heart of this project. Encouragingly, the pump test demonstrated a strong flow rate, confirming that the source has the capacity to support the planned water supply system. After 24 hours of continuous pumping, the water level had decreased by only six metres, a very positive indication of the borehole’s substantial water availability and its potential to sustainably serve the Mangalali community.

The 40,000-litre storage tank will also be essential in regulating and storing water before it is distributed through the network, helping ensure a more reliable supply for residents and important public facilities.

From the source to the storage tank and eventually to every connection point, every component brings us one step closer to a more accessible and sustainable water supply for Mangalali. 💧

💧 The Journey to Reliable Water for Mangalali Continues…

As the Mangalali Water Supply Project moves from planning into implementation, our work is taking us beyond construction sites and into the heart of the community.

Together with our implementing partners, Engineers Without Borders (EWB) – Michigan State University Chapter, we visited 12 existing water station points across the different sub-villages of Mangalali.

At each point, we listened, observed, and assessed the condition of the water infrastructure—asking an important question: How can we make sure these water points continue serving the community long after the project is completed?

The assessment is helping us identify maintenance needs, understand the challenges affecting functionality, and explore practical ways to strengthen the water distribution system.

For us, this project is not only about delivering water infrastructure. It is about creating a reliable, functional, and sustainable water system that the people of Mangalali can depend on. 💙🚰

The journey continues, and with every assessment, every conversation, and every step forward, we are getting closer to a future where safe and reliable water is accessible across Mangalali.

As we kick off the Mangalali Water Installation Project, the Afyaplus team, RUCU, Engineers Without Borders USA – MSU Chapter, and Mangalali community members came together for a vibrant community meeting. The meeting provided an opportunity to introduce the project, listen to community voices, share the implementation plan, and strengthen our connection with the community.

The excitement, joy, and hope were clear as community members welcomed a project that will address the longstanding challenge of limited access to reliable water, especially during the dry season.

Through our partnership, we aim to improve water access for households and essential institutions, including schools and the village dispensary, contributing to better health and community development.
The meeting was also filled with beautiful traditional dances, drumming, and music a wonderful reflection of Mangalali’s culture, unity, and hope for a better future. We are grateful to the Mangalali community for their warm welcome, enthusiasm, and commitment. Together, we are turning hope into action. 💧✨

Today, we had the pleasure of visiting the Iringa District Council Executive Director to share updates on the Mangalali Community Water Supply Project and introduce our implementation partners, Engineers Without Borders – Michigan State University Chapter (EWB-MSU) and Ruaha Catholic University (RUCU).

During the meeting, we presented the progress made so far, shared the project implementation plan, and discussed our collective commitment to addressing the water challenges facing the Mangalali community.

We are grateful to the DED for warmly receiving our project team, appreciating the project, and expressing support for our efforts to improve access to safe and reliable water in the community. We truly appreciate the continued collaboration, support, and warm welcome from the Iringa District Council. Together, we are working toward a more water-secure Mangalali community.

Once completed, the project is expected to benefit approximately 4,000 households, as well as two primary schools, a dispensary, markets, and community water stations established closer to residents.

This is more than a water project it is a step toward better health, education, and improved livelihoods for the Mangalali community. 🌍💧

A meaningful day of dialogue and shared learning at the Parliament of Tanzania. 🇹🇿💧

Our Executive Director, Suzan Yumbe, represented Afyaplus through TAWASANET in an engagement with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water and Environment.

It was a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences, share perspectives from the WASH sector, and strengthen collaboration between civil society and Parliament.

We are grateful to be part of conversations that contribute to improving access to safe and sustainable water and sanitation services across Tanzania.
