Advancing ECCE Policy and Investment: TECDEN Engagement in Zanzibar
From 10–13 August 2026, the Tanzania Early Childhood Development Network (TECDEN) participated in a high-level Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) policy dialogue convened in collaboration with UNESCO, the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar and the United Republic of Tanzania, bringing together government representatives, ECCE experts, development partners, practitioners and other key stakeholders.
The dialogue provided an important platform for sharing evidence, experiences and policy perspectives on how Tanzania can strengthen holistic, inclusive and quality ECCE systems.
For TECDEN, the engagement was an opportunity to advance the voice of civil society in shaping ECCE policy and investment priorities, with particular emphasis on sustainable financing, multisectoral coordination, quality service delivery, accountability and evidence-informed decision-making.
As Tanzania advances the aspirations of Development Vision 2050, investing in ECCE must be recognized as a strategic investment in human capital and long-term national development. Strong foundations in the early years contribute to better learning, health and nutrition outcomes, greater equity, improved productivity and a more resilient society.
The policy dialogue reinforced an important advocacy message: policy commitments must translate into resources, implementation and measurable results for children and families.
TECDEN remains committed to working with government, development partners, civil society and other stakeholders to strengthen the ECCE ecosystem and advance policies and investments that enable every child to survive, thrive, learn and reach their full potential.
Investing in the early years is investing in Tanzania’s human capital and the realization of Vision 2050.
