We want to connect and share our stories with the world. There are many unique individuals with amazing success stories living in Ifakara and The Mahenge Mountains that are excited to share their journey. We hope that these stories inspire you just like they inspired our team. Today, with the help of Dr. Louise JILEK-AALL & Provision Group, The Mahenge Epilepsy Clinic has goals to economically emp

ower epilepsy suffers while ensuring they receive adequate healthcare. For the first time in the community's history, epilepsy patients are attending school and maintaining jobs. We still have more work to do but now with the involvement and support from the community and the Tanzanian government the projects are moving and improving faster than ever. This all began in 1960 when Dr. Louise JILEK-AALL discovered that an astonishing number of the Wapogoro people of The Mahenge Mountains in the interior of Tanzania, suffered from epilepsy, called kifafa in Swahili. These people had never received medical treatment for epilepsy was believed to be an African disease caused by evil sprits, not treatable by modern medicine. The patients were shunned, outcasted and faced neglect, even by their own families. Dr. Louise JILEK-AALL knew seizures were treatable with AEDs (anti-epileptic drugs) and founded and funded The Mahenge Epilepsy Clinic. The Mahenge Epilepsy Clinic has expanded beyond treating and empowering patients with epilepsy. We have assisted with building sustainable farms, bee yards, and have invested in schools for our future generations. We look forward to future visits with our friends and invite you to get involved! Direct Message us with any questions you have as we'd be happy to answer them and provide you with more information. Asante Sana (Thank you very much)! Love,

The Team

When oral disease is prevalent, the best long term solution is not more dentists to provide treatment. The answer MUST be prevention.
