Earlier today, American Chamber of Commerce in Tanzania hosted a Private–Public Roundtable focused on charting strategic solutions to empower AGOA manufacturers and exporters amid the current tariff challenges following the expiry of the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) — whose one-year extension awaits U.S. Congressional approval.
The session brought together AmCham member companies (CEOs and senior executives) who have benefited from AGOA, alongside senior government officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, the National Planning Commission, the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA) under the President’s Office – Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
AmCham Chairman Geofrey Daniel Mchangila emphasized the importance of the U.S. market for Tanzania’s manufactured goods — noting its high household consumption (averaging $18,000 annually) and access to a unified market of over 340 million consumers. He underscored the urgency of coordinated interventions to sustain and expand Tanzania’s exports to the United States.
The government delegation, led by Ambassador John Ulanga Blandina Kilama, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with the private sector to design and implement both immediate and long-term measures that will ensure Tanzanian businesses remain competitive in the U.S. market.
AmCham Tanzania remains committed to fostering continued dialogue and collaboration between the private and public sectors — ensuring sustained growth in Tanzania–U.S. trade and investment relations. 🇹🇿🤝🇺🇸
Heartfelt appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Coorperation Ministry of Finance-Tanzania Office Planning Commission Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority ( TISEZA) for an effective meeting.
