What is NYEN
The National Youth Engagement Network (NYEN) is an ICS Innovation, launched in 2016 and funded by the ICS Innovation Fund. NYEN provides the structure and support to enable youth-led networks of ICS youth and community youth to engage in lifelong community social action and personal development, supported by key stakeholders and partners. Pilots were launched in six countries in 2016, three were extended in 2018, and two new countries will launch in 2019.
The NYEN has demonstrated the passion for activism within our in-country youth networks, and the importance of creating spaces for co-designing active citizenship opportunities with the alumni themselves.
NYEN Tanzania is considered to be a platform and a network which has the potential to positively impact its members and their communities. Compared to other NYENs, there is a stronger emphasis on personal development through income generation and entrepreneurship. This can be attributed to the design and early implementation of NYEN, which was subsequently realigned within the scope of the global project. Both youth and staff see NYEN as a space to bring young people together to share ideas and solutions for social issues, engaging with relevant partners and government bodies.
