AATZ Joins Tengeru Institute for Community Development in Community Climate Resilience Centre Inauguration
ActionAid Tanzania (AATZ) proudly participated in the inauguration of the Community Climate Resilience Centre (CCRC) at the Tengeru Institute for Community Development (TICD), marking an important milestone in advancing locally led climate action and resilience building. The establishment of the Centre demonstrates a strong commitment to creating inclusive platforms where communities, civil society, and academic institutions can collaboratively address the growing challenges posed by climate change. AATZ recognizes this initiative as a timely intervention that strengthens the connection between knowledge generation and practical community solutions for climate resilience.
This initiative is commendable for embracing the role of academia in supporting evidence-based advocacy and community empowerment. Through the Community Climate Resilience Centre, communities will have greater opportunities to benefit from academic research, innovations, and policy engagement that respond directly to local climate realities. The Centre is expected to serve as a bridge between researchers and grassroots actors, ensuring that scientific findings and adaptation strategies are translated into meaningful actions that improve livelihoods and strengthen resilience among vulnerable populations.
The inauguration ceremony was officiated by Hon. Reuben, Deputy Minister in the Vice President’s Office (Union and Environment), whose presence underscored the government’s commitment to strengthening climate resilience and promoting collaborative climate action in Tanzania. In his remarks, Hon. Reuben emphasized the importance of partnerships among government institutions, academia, civil society organizations, and local communities in addressing the impacts of climate change and advancing sustainable development initiatives.
This inauguration also responds to AATZ’s long-standing aspiration to see academia actively integrated into community-led climate justice initiatives. This aligns closely with AATZ’s Country Strategy Paper Five (CSP 5), particularly its second strategic priority that focuses on strengthening community resilience and driving system change for climate justice. AATZ believes that partnerships between communities and academic institutions are essential for fostering sustainable adaptation pathways, influencing equitable climate policies, and ensuring that frontline communities are equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to withstand climate-related risks.
