Investing in people and systems is key to sustainable impact. Yesterday, as part of our organizational development and programs improvement efforts, our team hosted a powerful Safeguarding Training facilitated by Mr. Benetius.

The session equipped us with essential knowledge and strengthened our commitment to fostering safe and supportive environments for staff and community we serve.

When children are empowered, the community changes.

We are thrilled to share the latest progress of the Zero Waste School Program currently being implemented at Buza, Nguva, and Pugu Secondary Schools. Our mission to foster sustainable waste management is hitting high gear!
So far, we have achieved several key milestones:

Capacity Building: Conducted intensive training sessions on Zero Waste models and waste typologies, empowering students and staff with the knowledge to manage resources sustainably.

Infrastructure for Change: Construction of dedicated Material Recovery Facility (MRF) is officially underway at all three schools. These centers will serve as the hub for waste value addition and diversions to landfill.

Data-Driven Action and solutions, our students have taken the lead in conducting Waste Assessment and Brand Audit. By identifying the most common plastic types and brands found on campus, we are developing targeted strategies to tackle plastic pollution at the source through Reuse initiative.

Progress is a collaborative effort. Together, we are turning school campuses into model sustainability.

We are delighted to be part and contribute to the Climate Resilient Waste Waste Management in Tanzania Coast Cities (CREW MAC) technical workshop and provide technical inputs on the climate and Waste management sector for 2 consecutive days from 27th April to 28th April 2026 at Protea Hotel Dar es Salaam

Having the key objective to co-create an investment ready proposal for The Green Climate Fund ( GCF) to build a sustainable waste management systems that protect our coastal communities from climate Impacts.

Mazingira Plus was well represented by Ms Fatuma Maulid who is our Project Officer - Gender and Climate Expert. Since 2024 Mazingira Plus we have been implementing an Inclusive Climate Action Project in low income communities where informal waste workers are empowered in livelihood projects, healthy and Safety issues.

Our Executive Director Abdallah Mikulu recently participated in the Zero Waste Academy, co-organized by & Zero Waste Asia

The Academy demonstrated that zero waste is not theoretical it is a practical, scalable system applicable across both low- and high-income communities. The focus on data-driven waste management stood out, showing how accurate data capture directly informs decision-making and accelerates system change.

Since 2023, Mazingira Plus has been implementing a Zero Waste Schools Program. The insights gained will strengthen how we integrate data into learning institutions to drive measurable impact.

Appreciation to the organizers for convening 36 participants from 12 countries an important step toward advancing global zero waste solutions.

Katika muendelezo wa Siku ya Kimataifa ya Taka Sifuri, Mazingira Plus tuliungana na Manispaa ya Temeke, TCCI, na United Planet katika kuadhimisha siku tajwa kwa kutoa mafunzo kwa vijana 40 kutoka taasisi mbalimbali, vyuo vikuu, na wanafunzi wa shule za Sekondari kuhusu kubadili Taka za Kuoza na kuwa mbolea ya asili (mboji) kwa nadharia na vitendo katika shule ya Sekondari Kibasila - Manispaa Temeke.

Toka mwaka 2023 Mazingira Plus kwa kushirikiana na TCCI tumekuwa tukitekeleza mradi wa Taka Sifuri ngazi ya Shule ili kubadili tabia za wanajamii za kutenganisha taka katika umri sahihi.

Tunaishukuru sana ofisi ya Mkurugenzi wa Manispaa ya Temeke, Uongozi wa taasisi ya TCCI, United Planet nk kwa ushirikiano na uratubu wa pamoja.

Empowering women, empowering the planet

At Mazingira Plus, we're not just about saving the environment - we're about creating sustainable livelihoods and a greener future.

This week, we had the privilege of engaging 30 amazing women in a 4-day training session on alternative charcoal production and climate change. These women are leading the way in reducing carbon emissions by diverting waste to make briquettes.
