Speaking during the launch, organizers emphasized the importance of collective community action in ending violence and creating safe environments for children and families. The campaign will engage various community groups, including bodaboda riders, local leaders, parents, and youth, through awareness sessions and public dialogues.

Youth Take the Lead in Groundbreaking TEVUAfya Research Training.

Young people are stepping into the world of research and innovation through the TEVUAfya project, a pioneering study exploring the intersection of digital technology, mental health, and well-being among adolescents and youth in urban and peri-urban Tanzania.
The project, titled “Investigating the Nexus of Digital ICT, Mental Health, and Well-being among Adolescents, Youths, and Young Adults,” recently convened a dynamic three-day engagement, including a two-day intensive training workshop followed by a one-day pilot study for Research Assistants.
Led by a consortium of leading institutions – Mwanza University, University of Dodoma, Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), National Research Foundation, and Mental Health Tanzania (MEHATA), the initiative is implemented in collaboration with Christ Hope International and SOS Children’s Villages in Mwanza.
At the heart of the project is a commitment to youth participation. The study actively engages young people aged 10 to 24, empowering them to explore and document real-life challenges affecting their peers, particularly around digital engagement and mental well-being.
Among the participants were three young Research Assistants from SOS Children’s Villages Mwanza, who underwent hands-on training in research methodologies, ethical data collection, and fieldwork practices. The training not only prepared them to contribute meaningfully to the study but also equipped them with practical skills that will support their future academic and professional journeys.
The inclusion of a pilot study enabled participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge in real-world settings, thereby strengthening their confidence and competence as emerging researchers.
As digital technologies continue to shape the lives of young people, initiatives like TEVUAfya are placing youth at the forefront of generating evidence and solutions, ensuring their voices are heard, their experiences understood, and their well-being prioritized.

When Flames Took Everything, Compassion Helped Rebuild Their Future.

Pemba Island.
In the quiet night at Fidel Castro Secondary School in Chake Chake District, Pemba Island, a devastating fire swept through the girls’ hostel, leaving 167 students without the essentials they relied on for daily life and learning.
Although no lives were lost, the flames consumed nearly everything: mattresses, school uniforms, books, and personal belongings. For many of these girls, it wasn’t just property that disappeared; it was their sense of security, stability, and readiness to continue their education.
In the days that followed, the emotional toll became clear. With exams approaching, uncertainty and distress threatened to disrupt not only their studies, but their confidence and hope for the future.
That’s when the Family Strengthening Programme in Pemba Island stepped in.
Through swift humanitarian support, SOS Children’s Villages provided essential supplies to all affected students, including school uniforms, learning materials such as compass sets, and basic personal items like plates, basins, and cups. These were more than just items; they were tools for restoring dignity, normalcy, and the ability to return to class with confidence.
With these essentials back in their hands, the girls were able to refocus on what matters most: their education and their dreams.
The support was officially handed over in collaboration with local authorities, led by the District Commissioner of Chake Chake District, Her Excellency Mrs. Zuhura Mgeni Othman. She expressed sincere appreciation for the timely intervention, emphasizing how such partnerships are vital in ensuring that no child is left behind in times of crisis.
This joint effort reflects the power of collaboration in responding to emergencies, combining immediate relief with long-term resilience. By standing with these students during one of their most difficult moments, SOS Children’s Villages has helped turn a story of loss into one of recovery, strength, and renewed hope.

Young Innovators Mark Labour Day with Climate Action in Mwanza.

As the world celebrated Labour Day on 1 May 2026, a group of passionate young people in Mwanza chose to honor the spirit of work not just through reflection, but through action.
Through its youth programme, SOS Children's Villages in Mwanza partnered with emerging innovators at Climathon Mwanza 2026, a dynamic event organized by the Environmental Conservation Community of Tanzania in partnership with Ennovatte Venture. The initiative brought together young minds, institutions, and local leaders to explore practical solutions to climate challenges affecting communities today.
In a setting that reflected the evolving nature of work in the 21st century, participants engaged with key stakeholders, including Tanzania Investment Authority, CRDB Bank, Mwanza Municipal Council, and FETA Mwanza. Together, they exchanged ideas, shared experiences, and explored how youth-led innovation can drive sustainable development.
For many of the young participants, the event was more than just a forum; it was a platform to reimagine the future of work. From green entrepreneurship to climate-smart solutions, the discussions highlighted how today’s youth are stepping into roles that not only create livelihoods but also protect the environment.
Speaking through their active participation, the youth from SOS Children’s Villages demonstrated that meaningful work goes beyond employment; it is about impact, responsibility, and building resilient communities.
