Lawyers' Environmental Action Team - LEAT LEAT is a premier public interest environmental law organization in Tanzania committed to ensure sound environmental management and protection.

LEAT is a member of the Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide (ELAW) and Friends of the Earth International. Lawyers’ Environmental Action Team (LEAT) was founded in 1994 and is the first and remains the only non-governmental organization (NGO) in Tanzania that combines rigorous applied legal-policy research, advocacy and public interest litigation in intersection between environment, human rights,

social justice and sustainable development. An urban-based organization like many others in the country, LEAT has been keenly aware of the need to build alliances with the majority rural constituencies and has established collaborative working relationships with the rural communities whose causes it has championed.

REQUEST FOR THE EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST-EXTERNAL AUDITOR.
📅 Deadline: 14 February 2026
Lawyers’ Environmental Action Team (LEAT), a leading public interest NGO in Tanzania dedicated to environmental management and protection, is inviting qualified and reputable audit firms to submit proposals for the annual statutory audit of its accounts for the financial year ending 31 December 2025.

🔎 Audit Objective
The audit aims to provide reasonable assurance that LEAT’s financial statements present a true and fair view of its financial position. The audit will be conducted in line with:

- International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS);
- International Standards of Auditing (ISA);
- Tanzania National Board of Accountants and Auditors regulations;
- Auditors will also assess compliance with the Tanzania NGO Act of
2002 and other relevant regulatory requirements.

✅ Eligibility Requirements
Interested firms should submit:

- Firm profile and proof of legal certification;
- Evidence of experience auditing NGOs in Tanzania or elsewhere
(with references from the last 3 years);
- Audit methodology, proposed work plan, and CVs of key audit
team members
- Technical and financial proposal.

📌 Key Deliverables
- Audited financial statements with opinion on compliance with
standards;
- Management Letter highlighting operational matters;
- Presentation of findings to LEAT’s Board of Directors;
- Timely completion of the audit (reports must be in English).

We’re proud to announce Ms. Hana Lupembe as the new Executive Director of the Lawyers' Environmental Action Team - LEAT

Hana brings a wealth of experience in environmental governance and community-based conservation, having served as Chief of Party for the USAID Resilient Communities Governance Project. Her leadership marks an exciting new chapter for LEAT’s mission to empower communities and protect Tanzania’s natural heritage.

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Rugemeleza Nshala, who has stepped down after years of dedicated service. His legacy continues to inspire our work toward environmental justice and sustainable development.
