Experience the exciting world of Women in Law and Development in Africa (WiLDAF), a Pan-African network devoted to the passionate empowerment of women throughout the continent. WiLDAF was established in February 1990 in the vibrant city of Harare, Zimbabwe, at a critical juncture in the UN Decade for Women. The organization’s compelling goal was to combine development and legal approaches to increase the influence and voice of women everywhere. Picture a tapestry of connectivity, linking communities, nations, regions, and the global stage, all with the aim of championing women’s rights and empowerment.

Children’s voices belong at the table. 🗣️

We had the privilege of taking part in a meaningful National Children’s Forum focused on strengthening children’s participation, amplifying their voices, and empowering them to take action on issues that directly affect their lives.

The forum created space for children to speak for themselves, share their experiences and challenges, propose solutions, and build their knowledge and capacity on climate change and its impact on children. 🌍🌱

The forum also marked the launch of the 2026 Regulations for the Establishment, Coordination and Operation of Children’s Councils, GN No. 177, made under Section 96A of the Law of the Child Act, Cap. 13.

Because meaningful child participation isn’t about speaking for children
, it’s about creating spaces where children can speak, be heard, and help shape the decisions that affect their lives. ✊🏾🤍

The movement starts with a conversation. 💜

We were glad to welcome students Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Academy to WiLDAF for a meaningful exchange on women’s and children’s rights, the realities facing our communities, and the role young people can play in creating a more just and equal society.

From sharing experiences to challenging perspectives and exploring ways to take action, the conversation was a reminder that young people aren’t just the future of the movement,we are part of it today.

Here’s to learning, questioning, speaking up, and turning knowledge into action. ✊🏾💜

Survivors deserve justice without further harm.

WiLDAF Tanzania convened IRLI and partners for a meaningful exchange on survivor safety, dignity and access to justice in cases of gender-based violence and child sexual abuse.

The discussion brought together perspectives on survivors’ experiences within the justice process, barriers to support, re-traumatisation, and opportunities to strengthen systems and responses.

What should change, and what has remained unresolved for women?

In the first working group, participants examined women’s constitutional reform priorities, reflecting on issues that remain unresolved from previous processes alongside current and emerging concerns requiring attention. The dialogue created space for diverse perspectives to be raised, discussed, and prioritised, with the aim of building a clearer set of priorities for women’s engagement in the reform process.

The future of our country is not shaped by those who hold power alone. It is shaped by all of us.

In her opening remarks, the National Coordinator of WiLDAF Tanzania reminded participants of their shared responsibility to shape a future where women’s rights are recognised and protected, including speaking up for women whose voices and experiences remain unheard. She emphasised the role of the Constitution in enabling people to realise their rights and aspirations, and called on civil society to be part of creating the pathways for meaningful change in the communities we serve.
