DOT Alumni Spotlight: John Shayo 🇹🇿

From a passion for solving environmental challenges to building a thriving circular agriculture enterprise, John’s journey is a powerful example of what happens when young people are equipped with the right skills, networks, and opportunities.

Through the Going Beyond Project, John strengthened his digital business and leadership skills while training 80+ young entrepreneurs and reaching 200+ peers through community mobilization.

Today, he is scaling Zona Farms, transforming organic waste into compost and organic fertilizers while creating opportunities for sustainable agriculture and youth entrepreneurship.

His journey has taken him from local community leadership to the Youth4Climate Call for Solutions, the Mandela Washington Fellowship, and DOT’s Global Youth Leadership Advisory Board.

From learner to trainer, entrepreneur, climate innovator, and youth leader, John is turning learning into impact.

Last week, the Digital Balozi from Mwanza, Tanga, and Pemba reconnected, shared implementation experiences, captured lessons learned, and strengthened their facilitation and leadership skills.

The training provided space to review and refine the Digital Balozi curriculum, ensuring it continues to equip young entrepreneurs with the digital and business skills needed to thrive in an evolving digital economy.
