CALL FOR ARTISTS 🎨
Are you a visual artist driven to create change?

The United Nations in Tanzania invites artists to participate in Shupavu, an art exhibition that promotes the visual arts as a powerful medium to end violence against women and girls. This art exhibit aims to challenge harmful social norms, amplify the voices of survivors, and inspire action to address gender-based violence through the universal language of art.

Selected artists will be invited to exhibit their work at a United Nations Tanzania event in Dar es Salaam on 6th December as a part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign.

Eligibility: We welcome submissions from visual artists of all backgrounds, especially those exploring themes of gender, resilience, social justice, and empowerment. All visual art forms are welcomed, including painting, sculpture, photography, and mixed media.

Undare Mkati was a solo exhibitor at The Drum in 2021. An architect by qualification, he had chosen to pursue a career in art.

An unknown Undare asked us to host his first ever solo exhibition and little did we all know, the sheer size of the artworks that he had produced for “Shades of Magufuli” would leave us and visitors in awe.

His series of art works inspired many with his fresh technique and bold approach, attracting thousands of visitors throughout the month long exhibition while trending on social media and creating a media frenzy.

To end his exhibition, the blessing of a private viewing from Mama Janet Magufuli truly was the best finale for this up and coming artist and it was a pleasure to stand with him at this milestone in his career.

Undare sold several pieces during this exhibition and gained some commissions. He later sold paintings that now proudly hang in homes around the world and in The State House of The United Republic of Tanzania.

We are incredibly happy for what he has achieved including the establishment of his very own art gallery.

This is just one of the wonderful stories of how The Drum provides a platform for artists to launch their brands and careers through the power of connection and collaboration.

Hongera Undare for truly showing how to MAKE ART WORK. We wish you ever success in your ongoing creative career 🎨 🖼 🇹🇿
