We can not talk about inclusive work spaces and inclusive society without touching on inclusive education.

What is inclusive education?

Inclusive education is an approach that ensures every student, irrespective of their background, abilities, or learning needs, has equal opportunities for academic and social development.

It is through inclusive learning environments that individuals are empowered and prepared for the diverse society and an environment where students learn to empathise , respect, and appreciate their peers’ unique abilities and backgrounds is cultivated.

There is an urgent need to shift from traditional one size fit all teaching methods to a flexible, adaptive, and person centred strategy so as to accommodate learners with neurodiversity. All students are unique, and every student brings their own strengths, challenges, experiences, and perspectives to the learning environment. Albert Einstein summed up the importance of inclusive education so well by saying; "Everyone is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life believing that it is stupid."

It's one year already since was founded!

As we reflect on the past one year, Our hearts are filled with immence joy and we can not help but be grateful for all the support and trust everyone has given us.

There is a long road ahead towards attaining a fully inclusive society where individuals with neurodiversity are treated as equal neighbours in our community, However we find hope and fuel to move forth from these beautiful words from Caroline M Harper,

"One act or grand gesture alone won’t change the whole world, but it can change the world for someone, who will change it for someone else, who will change is for someone else, and on and on.

Changing the world starts at home within ourselves and our families, expanding out with the ripple effect, creating a storm and changing the world for one person at a time with each kind word and act of love given to a stranger or friend."

Neurological differences can pose challenges for children, particularly in classrooms. Children with dyslexia may have a harder time learning to read, take notes or sit for standardized testing, whereas children with ADHD may struggle more with boredom and putting mental effort into challenging tasks.

Neurodiverse kids learn best in unique ways, and with the right approach, learning can be fun and engaging for them.

It is therefore important for teachers to find best and more appropriate methods to support their neurodiverse students.

Today, 10th October, is world mental health day.
As people grapple with rising stress levels, anxiety, and depression, we can't deny the fact that our working lives greatly impact our mental health.

Many leaders who lack empathy may argue, "Why bother with people's mental health? It's not our responsibility to make sure employees are okay and keeping it together because they are paid to do their job!" Well, gone are the days when employees’ emotional well-being was considered outside the purview of organizational responsibilities. Today’s leaders understand that mental health is pivotal in productivity, engagement, and employee satisfaction, and prioritising employee mental health is crucial for a thriving workplace.

Safe, healthy working environments can act as a protective factor for mental health whereas unhealthy conditions like stigma, discrimination, and exposure to risks like harassment and other poor working conditions, can pose significant risks which affect mental health and our overall quality of life as well as productivity at work.

Empathetic leadership is a beacon of responsible and compassionate management in a world that prioritizes deadlines over well-being. By embracing active listening, empathy, nonjudgmental responses, cognitive reframing, and confidentiality, leaders can create a nurturing and supportive environment that recognizes the importance of mental health.

Let’s make empathetic leadership the norm, not the exception. The future of successful organizations lies in the hands of leaders who understand that employee well-being is not just a personal concern but a vital organizational asset.

The earlier a child with dyslexia is diagnosed, the more effective educational interventions are likely to be.

However, it should be noted that identifying dyslexia in young children can be difficult for both parents and teachers because the signs and symptoms are not always obvious.

If there are still concerns about your child's progress after they have received additional teaching and support, it may be a good idea to have a dyslexia diagnostic assessment.

This can be carried out by an educational psychologist or an appropriately qualified specialist dyslexia teacher.

October is a month that raises awareness for many issues, including dyslexia.

WHAT IS DYSLEXIA?

Dyslexia is a common learning difficulty that mainly causes problems with reading, writing, and spelling.

It's estimated that 10-15% of the world's population has some degree of dyslexia.

People with dyslexia find it difficult to recognise the different sounds that make up words and relate these to letters.

Dyslexia isn't related to a person's general level of intelligence. Children and adults of all intellectual abilities can be affected by dyslexia.

The exact cause of dyslexia is unknown.

Disability inclusion is key to mental health and su***de prevention. As we commemorate world su***de prevention awareness Day and change the narrativeon su***de, let's highlight the undeniable link between disability inclusion and mental health and how people with disabilities and their caregivers often face challenges that can impact their mental well-being.

Social stigma, discrimination, accessibility barriers, and limited access to essential services can contribute to feelings of isolation, anxiety, and depression. Recognizing and addressing these mental health concerns is essential for creating a truly inclusive and supportive environments.

Let's all join hands to foster a culture of empathy, support, and understanding so that we can create environments where all individuals can thrive and contribute their unique talents.
Let’s continue to champion diversity and inclusivity in our workplaces and communities, ensuring that everyone’s mental health and well-being are valued and nurtured.
