TAWAH TAWAH was formed by Tanzanian Women Architects and Environmental Engineers who are committed to mobilizing women to build affordable and adequate shelter

Tanzania Women Architects for Humanity (TAWAH) is a non-governmental organization based in Dar es Salaam composed of women architects and scientists committed to enhancing social justice by improving living environments and facilitating income generating opportunities for low income and marginalized groups in Tanzania, particularly women. TAWAH uses a unique participatory approach to development that brings its expertise in design, engineering, science and finance into a partnership with the groups it serves in order to solve housing and sanitation problems. In doing so, TAWAH helps low income and marginalized communities enhance their social and economic capacities.

What does it take to lead on multiple fronts? Courage, intentionality, and the right mindset. Yesterday, we brought together 31 women and men from around the world for an inspiring online dialogue on “Women Leading on Multiple Fronts,” led by Kimberly DeWitt, EMBA, CPM, PMP, CSM and moderated by Victoria Marwa Heilman.

Being intentional, setting the tone, learning to prioritise, and shifting our mindset were among the key takeaways from this enriching conversation.

A special thank you to Kimberly for openly sharing her professional journey and the many hats she wears. Her experience was a powerful reminder that it is possible to pursue our professional ambitions while building and leading meaningful initiatives beyond our careers. The key lies in being intentional about our choices, prioritising what matters most, and having the courage to take the next step.

Sometimes, the biggest barrier is not a lack of opportunity, but the fear that holds us back from taking the first step. We must dare to begin, keep pushing beyond our comfort zones, and trust ourselves enough to pursue the things that matter to us.

“Our elders are our treasure. Let us care for them.”

Inspired by Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere’s philosophy, TAWAH Tanzania, in partnership with Afya Check Foundation, provided medical check-ups and treatment to elderly residents of Mhaga Village, Kisarawe District.

At TAWAH Centre, our dedicated elderly care space provides a place where older people can receive care, support, and attention in a safe and dignified environment. It reflects our commitment to improving their well-being and ensuring they feel valued, respected, and never forgotten.

We sincerely thank Afya Check Foundation and its medical team for bringing healthcare closer to our elders and for their compassion and dedication.

Because our elders helped build our communities, they deserve to age with dignity, good health, and love.

OUR ELDERS ARE OUR TREASURE. LET US CARE FOR THEM.

Our elders are a precious gift to our society. They dedicated their strength, wisdom, and years of hard work to building the communities we benefit from today. They deserve our love, respect, and care, especially in their later years.

In commemoration of Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Day, TAWAH Tanzania, in partnership with Afya Check Foundation, provided medical services to elderly residents of Mhaga Village, Kisarawe District. The initiative took place at the dedicated elderly care facility at TAWAH Centre, reaffirming our shared commitment to their health, well-being, and dignity.

Inspired by Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere’s philosophy of social responsibility, we are reminded that those who worked when they were able deserve to have their needs met when age makes them more dependent on others.

Caring for our elders is not charity; it is our responsibility and their right.

At TAWAH Tanzania, we believe that a compassionate society is one that values its elders, protects their dignity, and ensures they receive the care they deserve. Because the hands that helped build our communities should never be forgotten, neglected, or left behind.

KUENZI URITHI WA MWALIMU NYERERE KWA VITENDO

Katika kuadhimisha Siku ya Kumbukizi ya Baba wa Taifa, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, TAWAH Tanzania kwa kushirikiana na Afya Check Foundation tumetoa huduma za matibabu kwa wazee wanaoishi katika Kijiji cha Mhaga, Wilaya ya Kisarawe.

Zoezi hili limefanyika katika eneo maalumu lililojengwa kwa ajili ya kuwahudumia wazee ndani ya TAWAH Centre, likiwa ni sehemu ya kuendeleza upendo, utu na mshikamano katika jamii.

Tukiwa tunatafakari falsafa ya Mwalimu Nyerere, tunakumbushwa kuwa wazee wetu walitumia nguvu na uwezo wao kujenga jamii tuliyo nayo leo. Ni wajibu wetu kuwajali, kuwaheshimu na kuhakikisha wanapata mahitaji muhimu, ikiwemo huduma za afya, maisha yenye heshima na upendo wanaostahili.

Kuwajali wazee si hisani, bali ni wajibu na haki yao.

TAWAH Tanzania inaendelea kuamini kuwa jamii yenye utu ni ile inayowathamini wazee wake na kuhakikisha hakuna anayesahaulika.
