TZLPGA in collaboration with the Handeni District Council, conducted a seminar in Handeni involving Charcoal Producers and Distributors to raise awareness on environmental degradation and promote clean cooking alternatives.

The seminar highlighted the importance of transitioning to clean cooking solutions, particularly as Handeni is one of the major charcoal production hubs in Tanga Region, contributing about 23% of the charcoal supplied to Dar es Salaam according to research findings.

Discussions covered environmental policies, the National Clean Cooking Strategy, Clean Cooking Fund, and opportunities in sustainable businesses such as LPG, briquettes, and improved cookstoves.

The Government emphasized clean cooking as a strategy to protect health, conserve the environment, and support social development.

Participants showed strong interest in LPG business opportunities and highlighted the need for more LPG agents, public safety awareness, and environmental restoration initiatives such as “Cut a tree, plant a tree.”

TZLPGA, together with HSSEQ Managers from Member Companies, recently engaged with the Public Safety Commissioner from the Fire and Rescue Force (FRF) to address key improvement areas within Tanzania’s LPG industry.

Key focus areas included:
• Timely incident response
• Risk assessment and mitigation
• Inspections and regulatory compliance
• Capacity building
• Public awareness on safe LPG use
• Strengthening data collection and use of statistics for decision-making
