Proud moment for our work on the Fighting Inequality project. Gwamaka Mwakyanjala, Advocacy and Partnership Manager is in Norway participating in a high-level panel discussion alongside Stine Renate Håheim, the State Secretary for the Minister of International Development and global experts sharing Tanzania experience on addressing extreme inequality through tax funded universal health insurance. The dialogue is part of ongoing discussions regarding the review of Norway foreign development policy. Gwamaka appeals for Norwegians and international community to provide continued funding support to CSOs in developing countries to hold government accountable for effective tax resource utilization and responsible borrowing to fight poverty and inequality.

From a small farm in Pemba to saving lives 🌱

At 23, Abdalla Omar Salum from Pemba Island turned a small farming opportunity into a big future. Through climate-smart agriculture and drip irrigation, he earned income that helped him complete his nursing studies when he had no other way to pay.

“This project has helped me a lot. Now I have a job as a nurse at a hospital,” he says.

Today, Abdalla is both a nurse and an active member of his farming group proving that sustainable livelihoods can truly change lives.

A Strategic Workshop on Business and Human Rights (BHRE), Alternative Mining Audit Program (AMAP) and Grievance Redress Mechanisms (GRM) brought people together around one goal: making mining in Tanzania more fair, accountable and responsible.

The reflection was around the National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights, community-led work through AMAP and how to make GRM systems stronger. But more than anything, it was a reminder that it’s time to act.

The responsibility is ours.

Communities deserve to be heard, protected and treated fairly. CSOs, faith actors and government all have a part to play working together and turning ideas into real change.

Because responsible mining isn’t optional, it’s a duty.

“As people of faith, we are called to love our neighbours not only in words, but through compassion in action. When one part of the community suffers, we all share that pain and the responsibility to respond.” Said Rt. Rev. Godfrey Hadadi Sehaba, Bishop of the Anglican Church of Tanzania, Diocese of Morogoro.
Together with the Anglican Church and the Government, Norwegian Church Aid is standing with families affected by floods in Kilosa, providing mattresses, blankets, and hygiene kits to help restore dignity, comfort and hope.

A National Dialogue with Religious Leaders created a bold and much needed space to reflect on progress and define the way forward in ending child marriage in Tanzania.

Faith leaders are not only voices of belief they are powerful catalysts for change.Their commitment signals a growing movement toward protecting the dignity, rights and future of every girl.

While the journey continues, dialogues like these are critical in shaping the policies, norms and actions needed to end child marriage. In collaboration with partners including Msichana Initiative, Norwegian Church Aid remains committed to turning these conversations into lasting change.
