TaWaSaNet The network goes beyond coordination through ensuring quality assurance and accountability of CSOs in the WASH sector.

Tanzania Water and Environmental Sanitation Network (TAWASANET) is a formed network of Tanzanian civil society organizations working in the water and sanitation sector. Our main programmes and activities are focusing on:

Coordination
Coordination of the voices of the voiceless is done through our member organizations, who are working at the grass-root levels. Over years, the network role has b

een streamlining the raised voices and presented them to the national level for influencing changes or improvement in WASH policies, laws and regulations, and good practices at the international levels. Networking
TAWASANET facilitate networking of CSOs working in the WASH sector in Tanzania through linking members with key information on WASH, updates in the sector including opportunities such as funding, technological, technical, and sharing best practices. TAWASANET is also bridge networking between WASH CSOs and other stakeholders including the government (both central and local), development partners and private sector. Documentation and Dissemination
TAWASANET is a resource centre for WASH documentation. Key information and best practices on WASH are documented and disseminated at all levels. Policy Research, Lobbying and Advocacy
TAWASANET conduct policy researches on WASH. The network applies researches for lobbying and advocacy at the national and international levels through sectoral dialogues, meetings, workshops and fora. Annually, equity monitoring reports are prepared and presented to the Joint Sector Review meetings to inform the sector. Capacity building
The network builds the capacity of its members in various areas including WASH governance; advocacy; budget tracking; WASH monitoring and evaluation; and research activities.

TAWASANET proudly participated in the Joint Water Sector Review held in Morogoro on 17th March 2026, as part of the lead-up to the climax of Water Week under the theme “Water and Gender.” The event was officially officiated by the Guest of Honour, Hon. Ambassador Khamis M***a Omary, Minister of Finance.
During the meeting, TAWASANET presented the CSOs Statement, highlighting the role and contributions of civil society in advancing the water sector in Tanzania. In addition, TAWASANET presented two key reports: the Equity Report and the CSOs Contribution Report to the Water Sector in Tanzania, demonstrating the impact and achievements of civil society efforts.
In recognition of its strong commitment and outstanding coordination in the implementation of the Water Sector Development Programme (WSDP), TAWASANET was awarded a recognition award by the Guest of Honour, acknowledging its significant contribution and continued dedication to strengthening collaboration, promoting equity, and ensuring sustainable water services for all.

The event also featured the unveiling of two strategic frameworks aligned with the new strategy: the WASH Business Plan and the National Resource Development Plan.

TAWASANET on 11th February 2026, officially launched a four-year programme funded by Civil Society in Development (CISU) through Danish People’s Aid (DPA) titled “Safe Water, Dignified Sanitation, Bright Future: Advancing WASH Services in East and Southern Africa (2026–2029)” in Morogoro.
The programme will be implemented from 2026 to 2029, aiming to strengthen Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) services in Tanzania, particularly in Singida, Dodoma, and Dar es Salaam regions.
The launch brought together key stakeholders including representatives from the Ministry of Water, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, alongside other development partners.
Through this initiative, TAWASANET reaffirms its commitment to promoting safe water access, dignified sanitation, and a brighter future for communities.

The 2025 Annual NGOs Forum was officially opened yesterday, August 11, 2025, by the Deputy Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, Hon. Mwanaidi Ali Khamis, who served as the Guest of Honour for the first day of the event.

The opening ceremony took place at the Jakaya Kikwete Convention Centre in Dodoma.

During the opening session, TAWASANET was honoured with a Certificate of Recognition for its outstanding coordination of members in preparing the NGOs’ Water Sector Contribution Report for three consecutive years.

As part of the event programme, the Deputy Minister toured the exhibition booths of participating organizations, where she visited the TAWASANET booth to learn more about our initiatives and impact.

The forum is scheduled to run for three days, from August 11 to 13, 2025, providing a platform for stakeholders from non-governmental organizations to discuss and evaluate their contributions to national development over the past five years (2020–2025).
