TaWaSaNet The network goes beyond coordination through ensuring quality assurance and accountability of CSOs in the WASH sector.

Tanzania Water and Environmental Sanitation Network (TAWASANET) is a formed network of Tanzanian civil society organizations working in the water and sanitation sector. Our main programmes and activities are focusing on:

Coordination
Coordination of the voices of the voiceless is done through our member organizations, who are working at the grass-root levels. Over years, the network role has been streamlining the raised voices and presented them to the national level for influencing changes or improvement in WASH policies, laws and regulations, and good practices at the international levels. TAWASANET facilitate networking of CSOs working in the WASH sector in Tanzania through linking members with key information on WASH, updates in the sector including opportunities such as funding, technological, technical, and sharing best practices. TAWASANET is also bridge networking between WASH CSOs and other stakeholders including the government (both central and local), development partners and private sector. TAWASANET is a resource centre for WASH documentation. Key information and best practices on WASH are documented and disseminated at all levels. Policy Research, Lobbying and Advocacy
TAWASANET conduct policy researches on WASH. The network applies researches for lobbying and advocacy at the national and international levels through sectoral dialogues, meetings, workshops and fora. Annually, equity monitoring reports are prepared and presented to the Joint Sector Review meetings to inform the sector. Capacity building
The network builds the capacity of its members in various areas including WASH governance; advocacy; budget tracking; WASH monitoring and evaluation; and research activities.

Tarehe 23 Septemba 2026, TAWASANET kupitia mashirika wanachama, HAPA na TTI, ilishiriki katika kipindi cha redio kupitia Standard Radio FM ya Singida, kuhamasisha jamii kuhusu umuhimu wa usafi wa mazingira.

Mazungumzo hayo yalilenga katika masuala mbalimbali, ikiwemo umuhimu wa usafi wa mazingira kwa afya ya jamii, ujenzi na matumizi sahihi ya vyoo bora, madhara ya kujisaidia katika maeneo ya wazi, upatikanaji na matumizi ya maji safi na salama, pamoja na umuhimu wa huduma bora za maji, vyoo na unawaji mikono shuleni na vituo vya huduma za afya.

Uhamasishaji huu ni sehemu ya utekelezaji wa mradi wa “Maji Salama, Usafi wa Mazingira kwa Heshima na Maisha Bora ya Baadaye, unaotekelezwa na TAWASANET katika wilaya za Singida na Ikungi Mkoani Singida.

On 28th August 2026, TAWASANET convened its 16th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Dodoma, bringing together members to reflect on the Network’s achievements, strengthen accountability, and shape the way forward.

The AGM provided an opportunity to review the 2025 Board Performance and Audited Financial Reports, reflect on previous resolutions, approve the 2026 Annual Work Plan and Budget, and discuss key priorities, including resource mobilisation towards 2030 and strengthening membership engagement within the Network.

The meeting reaffirmed TAWASANET’s commitment to collective action, transparency, accountability, and stronger advocacy for sustainable and equitable WASH services for all.

On 27 August 2026, TAWASANET convened an Advocacy & Learning Session at Morena Hotel, Dodoma, bringing together key stakeholders from the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector to share knowledge, evidence, experiences, and strengthen collective advocacy efforts.
The session focused on critical WASH sector issues, including the national WASH situation and TAWASANET’s strategic positioning, Water Sector Budget Analysis (Vote 49), the contribution of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to the WASH sector, water sector budgeting and policy outlook, parliamentary oversight, sanitation and hygiene, School WASH, and WASH sector coordination.
The session provided an important platform for stakeholders to reflect on progress, challenges, lessons learned, and opportunities for stronger collaboration between Government, Parliament, CSOs, and other WASH stakeholders to advance equitable, sustainable, and inclusive WASH services in Tanzania.
TAWASANET remains committed to strengthening the collective voice of CSOs and promoting evidence-informed advocacy to influence policies, plans, budgets, resource allocation, and decision-making in the WASH sector.

TAWASANET held an engagement with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water and Environment on 11th August 2026 in Dodoma to discuss and exchange experiences on key issues related to the water sector, including sector financing and budget priorities, as well as the role and contribution of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in advancing the sector.
The engagement provided an opportunity to strengthen dialogue and collaboration with Parliament on key water sector priorities and to share perspectives on the contribution of CSOs towards improving access to sustainable and inclusive water services in Tanzania.
TAWASANET remains committed to strengthening collaboration with key stakeholders in advancing the water sector and ensuring that the voices of citizens and Civil Society Organizations are reflected in sector discussions and decision-making.

On 4th August 2026, TAWASANET successfully convened a High-Level Ministerial Briefing Session in Dodoma, bringing together key government stakeholders to share evidence, key findings, and strategic recommendations from two recently finalized reports: the Water Sector Budget Analysis 2025/26 and the WASH CSOs Contribution Report 2025.
The session provided an important platform for evidence-based dialogue, strengthening collaboration between the Government and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and reaffirming our shared commitment to improving water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services across Tanzania. Through constructive discussions and shared learning, we continue to promote accountability, informed decision-making, and sustainable solutions for the WASH sector.

TAWASANET participated in the Thematic Working Group (TWG) Meetings on 3rd - 4th June 2026 in Dodoma. The meetings aim to discuss progress of Water Sector Development Programme phase III, Implementation Status of the previous Agreed Actions of TWG Meetings and other Water Sector Strategic issues necessary for effective next Programme Implementation.

The meetings also discuss the ending WSDP III (July 2006 to June 2026) evaluating achievements and challenges; next Programme priorities/interventions/targets to be implemented over the five years and the next twenty five years period.

TAWASANET was pleased to be represented at the official launch of Lifewater International’s new logo and brand identity, held in Shinyanga on 3rd June 2026.

The network was represented by its member, Mr. Kazingo, Director from Shinyanga, who attended the event and joined other stakeholders in celebrating this important milestone for Lifewater International.

Congratulations to Lifewater International on the unveiling of its new brand identity, and best wishes as the organization continues its commitment to improving access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services.

Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology (CAWST), in collaboration with Maji Safi Group (MSG) and TAWASANET, successfully conducted a three-day training on Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage in Dodoma from 1st to 3rd June 2026.

The training enhanced participants’ knowledge and skills on safe drinking water practices and household water treatment technologies.

At the end of the training, all participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their successful completion of the course.
