This week, we visited Ben Bella Secondary School in Zanzibar to check on the school library's progress and see how it continues to support students and teachers.

We also handed over 116 additional books, including reference and fiction books, to expand the range of reading materials available to students. The visit provided an opportunity to observe the library's progress, understand how the available resources are being used, and identify areas for further improvement.

We remain committed to supporting school libraries with resources that strengthen teaching and learning and encourage students to make reading part of their daily lives.

Technology gives us more ways to find information, but books remain valuable sources of knowledge, reflection, and discovery.

The International Day of the Girl Child, established by the United Nations in 2011, recognises girls’ rights and the unique challenges they face around the world. It reminds us of the importance of investing in girls’ education, leadership, and empowerment to build a brighter and more equal future for all.

This year’s theme, “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights,” calls for greater action to protect girls from child marriage, uphold their right to education, and create an environment where every girl can develop her potential, pursue her ambitions, and participate fully in shaping a more equal society.

Every girl deserves the right to education, and true education begins with access to books and learning resources. Learning materials give girls the opportunity to learn at their own pace, explore diverse ideas, and connect what they study to real-life experiences. When girls have the freedom to access information, they gain knowledge, skills, confidence, and vision to change the world.

Wiki ya Huduma kwa Wateja | Kusaidia shughuri za Maktaba, Kuwezesha wanafunzi

Katika kuhitimisha Wiki ya Huduma kwa Wateja, timu yetu ilitembelea Shule ya Sekondari Kipunguni, ambapo ilishiriki katika shughuli za maktaba, ikiwemo kuweka mihuri kwenye vitabu na kuvipanga ili kuboresha mpangilio wa maktaba na kurahisisha upatikanaji wa vitabu kwa wanafunzi.

Tumekabidhi jumla ya vitabu 144 vikiwemo vitabu 52 vya hadithi na vitabu 92 vya ziada vya kujifunzia, kwa ajili ya kuwaongezea wanafunzi nyenzo za kujifunzia na kuhamasisha utamaduni wa kusoma.

Tunapohitimisha wiki hii, tunaendelea kukumbuka kuwa kila hatua inayochukuliwa kuboresha mazingira ya maktaba ni sehemu ya kuwahudumia wanafunzi na kuwawezesha kupata uzoefu bora wa kujifunza.

Tunaendelea kushirikiana na shule katika kuimarisha maktaba na kukuza utamaduni wa kusoma.

Customer Service Week | Beyond Books

Great customer service is about creating experiences that make people feel welcome, valued and supported.

In a school library, this can mean creating an environment where students not only access books, but also have opportunities to learn, interact and enjoy meaningful activities.

It is encouraging to see the school making its library more engaging for students through activities like Scrabble. Small initiatives like these can make the library experience more enjoyable and welcoming for every learner.

Because customer service is not only about what we provide, but also about how people experience it.

When Mereza Deus, a Form II student at Minazi Mirefu Secondary School, first started using the school library, she didn’t understand its importance. With support from her teachers and fellow students, she began reading more and the impact has been meaningful.

Today, reading has helped her improve her English-speaking skills, build confidence, perform better academically, and develop a stronger interest in learning.

Her story is a reminder that the right support and access to books can make a real difference in a student’s learning journey.
